J’ai vu les trois premiers bands le mardi aux Foufs, donc j’étais ben contente de les revoir le vendredi avec moins d’alcool dans mon système, afin d’en profiter un peu plus!

THE CORPS
Ces gars-là sont tous des amours, sans exception. Pis Dan Garrisson est charismatique as f**k. Il est beau, fin, drôle et il chante bien. Les gars débutent avec Dear Detective et la crowd se joint à lui dès les premières paroles.

THE CORPS

Ils ont enchaîné les chansons l’une après l’autre. On a eu droit, entre autres, à : The Long Winter, Born on Monday et Jonah Hex.

NO FUN AT ALL
Pour une raison inconnue, mes vidéos de NO FUN AT ALL et de SATANIC SURFERS sont inutilisables, est-ce une malédiction suédoise ?). Avant la semaine dernière, la dernière fois que j’avais vu NO FUN AT ALL remontait à 2022 à RED BRIDGE FEST. C’était donc vraiment plaisant de les voir deux fois #brag.

Et je capte des moments inédits, des fois, des p’tites perles de photos. Par exemple un agent de sécurité qui accueille un festivalier fourche première dans face. Pauvre Augustin ahah

SATANIC SURFERS
Je ne vais pas faire semblant : ce n’est pas un band que j’ai beaucoup écouté dans ma vie. Par contre, depuis les quatre dernières années, je les ai vus souvent en festival et chaque fois, ça livre solide. Rodrigo Alfaro garde une énergie incroyable sur scène et leur skate punk rapide finit toujours par embarquer la foule, même ceux qui, comme moi, ne partent pas avec toutes les paroles en tête.

On a eu droit à une bonne dose de classiques, un pit qui brassait sans arrêt et quelques surfeurs de foule qui prenaient ça au pied de la lettre. Ce n’est pas devenu mon band préféré, mais force est d’admettre qu’ils savent tenir un set qui réveille tout le monde.

SPIKE AND THE GIMME GIMMES
Ce qui est l’fun avec Me First (si c’est encore Me First sur Spotify, j’ai l’droit ok !) c’est qu’on ne sait jamais à quoi s’attendre. On le sait que ça va être divertissant… mais en quelles couleurs ? Surprise !

Faque après avoir croisé Jésus sur le site, Jolene part à plein volume et c’est le temps de retourner se faire une crise d’asthme dans l’pit.

Surtout qu’ils ont enchaîné avec Country Road pis Wild World pour être certains de nous chauffer en masse.

Le crépuscule s’installait, pis le stage a pris peu à peu des airs de camping de la Ptite Floride (nom fictif) avec des palmiers gonflables illuminés.

À Straight Up, je me suis rendue compte que filmer ça sans chanter/hurler par-dessus, ce n’est pas évident. Faque, j’ai sagement planqué mon cell dans ma poche.

J’ai décidé d’aller faire un p’tit tour backstage et j’y ai trouvé mes chums de THE CORPS. On a eu ben du fun, surtout pendant Sloop John B. Perso, j’avais l’impression d’avoir deux shows en un parce que Dan… ben, c’est Dan, pis il est juste écoeurant, c’te gars-là!

DROPKICK MURPHYS
Un band qui rend le vert populaire. Le kilt aussi, remarque. Y’avait beaucoup des deux vendredi soir.

Anecdote : chercher un ami dans la crowd avec comme repère « en arrière d’un dude avec un t-shirt vert »… ben… on l’a pas retrouvé tout de suite…

Dropkick est tellement rodé et pro. Et sincèrement content d’apporter du bonheur aux gens. C’est la 3e fois que je les vois post-COVID pis je pense que c’est la prestation que j’ai le plus appréciée.

Mon meilleur moment, fut pendant The Boys Are Back, ma préférée du band (Je suis originale, je le sais #not).

Le chanteur s’approchait souvent de la foule, est même allé faire un câlin à une p’tite puce pour sa fête : ils ont signé sa pancarte et la sécurité l’a fait monter sur la clôture afin qu’elle envoie un ballon géant dans la foule.

J’étais contente de capter ça sur le vif et de l’envoyer à sa maman, même si mon angle n’était pas le meilleur. Ils ont une fan inconditionnelle de plus pour la vie, c’est sûr! « Esti » que c’est hot le punk rock.

HAZY OAK @ l’after
Hazy Oak, c’est la chanteuse. Elle s’est entourée d’artistes talentueuses à la guitare, drum, et Caro Josh à la basse (anciennement avec Bad Skin). C’est toujours cool des bands de femmes qui s’affirment et revendiquent leur place dans un monde qui n’est malheureusement pas encore équitable côté genres.

I saw the first three bands on Tuesday at Les Foufs, so I was really happy to see them again on Friday with less alcohol in my system, so I could enjoy them a little more!

THE CORPS
These guys are all lovely, without exception. And Dan Garrisson is charismatic as f**k. He’s handsome, refined, funny, and he sings well. The guys started with Dear Detective and the crowd joined in from the first lyrics. They played one song after another. Among others, we were treated to: The Long Winter, Born on Monday, and Jonah Hex.

NO FUN AT ALL
For some unknown reason, my videos of NO FUN AT ALL and SATANIC SURFERS are unusable. Before last week, the last time I had seen NO FUN AT ALL was in 2022 at RED BRIDGE FEST. So it was really nice to see them twice #brag.

And sometimes I capture unique moments, little gems of photos. For example, a security guard who greets a festival-goer with a pitchfork to the face. Poor Augustin, haha.

The fun thing about Me First (if it’s still Me First on Spotify, I’m allowed, okay!) is that you never know what to expect. You know it’s going to be entertaining… but in what colors? Surprise!

So after bumping into Jesus on the site, Jolene kicks into high gear and it’s time to go back and have an asthma attack in the pit. Especially since they followed up with Country Road and Wild World to make sure they got us all fired up.

Twilight was setting in, and the stage gradually took on the air of a Lil’ Florida (fictitious name) campground with illuminated inflatable palm trees. During Straight Up, I realized that filming this without singing/screaming over it is not easy. So I wisely tucked my cell phone into my pocket.

I decided to take a little trip backstage and found my friends from THE CORPS there. We had a lot of fun, especially during Sloop John B. Personally, I felt like I was getting two shows in one because Dan… well, he’s Dan, and he’s just an awesome, guy!

DROPKICK MURPHYS
A band that makes green popular. Kilts too, for that matter. There were plenty of both on Friday night.

Fun fact: looking for a friend in the crowd with the clue “behind a dude wearing a green T-shirt”… well… we didn’t find him right away…Dropkick is so well-experienced and professional. And honestly happy to bring joy to people. This is the third time I’ve seen them post-COVID, and I think this is the performance I’ve enjoyed the most.

My favorite moment was during “The Boys Are Back,” my favorite song by the band (I’m original, I know #not).

The singer often approached the crowd and even went to give a little girl a hug for her birthday: they signed her poster and security lifted her up over the fence so she could throw a giant balloon into the crowd. I was happy to capture that moment and send it to her mom, even though my angle wasn’t the best. They have one more die-hard fan for life, that’s for sure! Punk rock is so cool.

Hazy Oak is the singer. She’s been surrounded by talented artists on guitar, drums, and Caro Josh on bass (formerly with Bad Skin). It’s always cool to see women’s bands affirming themselves and claiming their place in a world that, unfortunately, is still not gender-equal.
