MEGADETH + LAMB OF GOD + TRIVIUM + IN FLAMES | CENTRE VIDEOTRON | 19.05.2022

Tout est en place pour la dernière soirée de la tournée METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR avec IN FLAMES en ouverture, TRIVIUM par la suite et LAMB OF GOD et MEGADETH, qui renouvelleront leurs vœux avec le public de Québec. Tous ces groupes d’expérience se partageront la scène ce soir.

IN FLAMES
Dès le début, avec beaucoup de gens impatients d’arriver, IN FLAMES a pris la scène en commandant des « circle pits » et du « bodysurfing ». 

Le groupe étant lourd musicalement, la salle est rapidement devenue bruyante de métal. Cependant, les musiciens semblaient un peu en manque d’énergie au départ mais, après quelques chansons, ils ont tous retrouvé une certaine vigueur.

Avec empathie, il faut savoir qu’ils ont enchaîné les spectacles depuis le 9 avril presque sans arrêt.

Jouant des titres couvrant toute la carrière du groupe, en gardant un rythme solide, le chanteur Anders Fridén s’est adressé à la foule disant qu’ils étaient vraiment reconnaissants d’être ici.

Avec cette sincère affirmation, la foule maintenant devenue plus dense s’est mise à vibrer avec les bras dans les airs.

TRIVIUM
De retour après 10 ans d’absence, ce furent de belles retrouvailles entre le groupe et ses fans! Débutant en force « In The Court Of The Dragon », un « circle pit » s’est tout de suite formé sur cette chanson!

Des éclairages simples, un son plus grand que nature, on pouvait entendre chaque instrument distinctement.

La voix de Matt était bonne, même lorsqu’il parlait un peu en français. Au fur et à mesure, l’énergie circulait et le public y plongeait davantage avec chaque titre.

Parfois plus lourd, parfois mélodique, l’équilibre est bon. Je ressentais mon « mana » comme THE ROCK mais dans une ambiance « métallique ».

Trivium a fini par conquérir tout le monde présent car la plupart étaient debout et dansaient à la fin.  Après une telle démonstration, la barre était haute pour LAMB OF GOD.

LAMB OF GOD
La première tête d’affiche, dirigée par le puissant RANDY BLYTHE, a fait son entrée.

Dire que cela a commencé avec un bang serait un euphémisme! À la tombée du rideau, un retentissant boom a fait trembler le sol et a littéralement donné le ton du spectacle.

Et ensuite l’enfer s’est déchaîné avec « Walk With Me In Hell » sur fond de flammes rouges.

Je n’aurais jamais pensé que du hardcore/metal pouvait être visuellement aussi théâtral. Mais le mélange est efficace. Pour ceux qui osent dire que ce sont de vieux « metalheads », l’âge ne semble pas affecter leur jeu ni leur vigueur.

Ils ont été en action jusqu’au dernier bang (le même du début), rendant les artifices secondaires.

Bref, disons que l’énorme « circle pit » de « Redneck » a été à la hauteur!

MEGADETH 
Pour terminer cette nuit bien remplie de lourdeur, les géants du « thrash » ont fait leur atterrissage en douceur, si j’ose dire, aux alentours de 22h. 

Haut perché sur ce qui semble être de nombreux amplis de guitares superposés, le batteur DIRK VERBEUREN a donné le coup d’envoi avec Hangar 18.

Se déplaçant librement sur une scène grande ouverte, il était évident que les membres savaient ce qu’ils faisaient.

Le son était de parfait et clair, et les écrans animés et les structures éclairées de néons verts apportaient une ambiance pas mal métalleuse, tout cela rehaussé par les chants de la foule! Et ce n’était que le début. Puis à Conquer or Die, les musiciens ont mis de l’avant leur talent de « shredders ».

Il n’y avait rien de négatif à souligner. En tant que légendes du genre, Megadeth règne toujours et ce fut une performance réconfortante.

Everything is in place for the last night of the METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR with IN FLAMES as an opening act, TRIVIUM and LAMB OF GOD and MEGADETH, who will renew their vows with the crowd in Quebec City.  All these experienced bands will be sharing the stage tonight.

IN FLAMES
From the beginning, with many people eager to arrive, IN FLAMES took the stage and quickly asked for circle pits and bodysurfing.

The band being musically on the heavier side, the room quickly became darkly metal. The band members however seemed to be lacking a bit of energy but after a few songs, they all seemed to get it back.

With much empathy, one has to acknowledge that they have been touring almost non-stop since April 9.

Playing songs from an entire career, the band kept a solid pace. Singer Anders Fridén told the crowd theywere really grateful to be here.

With this, I believe, sincere affirmation, the now denser crowd vibrated with all arms in the air.

TRIVIUM
Back after 10 years of absence, it was a nice reunion between the band and everyone! Coming in strong with “In The Court Of The Dragon” a strong circle pit could be seen right at the start of that song!

Great lighting, great sound, each instrument could be heard distinctly.

Matt’s voice was good even when speaking a bit of French.

The energy was flowing, and the crowd was diving deeper into it. Sometimes heavier, sometimes melodic, there’s a good balance. I could feel like The Rock’s “Mana”, but in a metal frame.

After a while, Trivium conquered everyone at the venue, as most were standing and dancing at the end. After such a demonstration, LAMB OF GOD had big shoes to fill.

LAMB OF GOD
The first headlining band, led by the powerful RANDY BLYTHE , then got on stage.

To say that it started with a bang is an understatement! When the curtain fell, a resounding boom shook the ground and literally set the tone for the show.

And then hell broke loose with “Walk With Me In Hell” with red flame in the background.

I never thought that hardcore/metal could be visually so theatrical. But the mix is effective. For those who thought that they are old « metalheads », I assure you age does not seem to affect their playing nor their vigor.

The band was coming and going non-stop right untilthe last bang (same one as in the beginning), making the pyrotechnics secondary.

Oh and, about the shoes mentioned earlier – I think they were destroyed in the huge circle pit during “Redneck”!

MEGADETH 
To end this heavy night, the thrash giant made its landing smoothly – dare I say –at around 10pm.

Perched high on what appeared to be many stacked guitar amps, drummer Dirk Verbeuren kicked off the show with Hangar 18.

Then pacing freely on a wide open stage, the band members obviously knew what they were doing.

The sound was top notch and clear, and the animated screens and the structures illuminated with green neon lights brought on a very metal atmosphere, all of this enhanced by the chants of the crowd! And that was just the beginning. Then during “Conquer or Die”, they put forward their craftmanship as « shredders ». 

There was nothing negative to point out.  As legends of the genre, Megadeth still rules, and it was a comforting performance.
