SHINEDOWN + COHEED AND CAMBRIA + FROM ASHES TO NEW | CENTRE VIDÉOTRON QUEBEC | 15.07.2026

Encore une soirée de nostalgie pour moi ce soir! Ces temps-ci, on est vraiment gâtés avec les shows qui ramènent des bands qui me font revivre mon adolescence. Ce soir, c’est du côté du Centre Vidéotron que ça se passe avec SHINEDOWN, COHEED AND CAMBRIA ainsi que FROM ASHES TO NEW. Avec le FEQ qui présentait THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS en première partie de KESHA, ce fut probablement un choix déchirant pour certains. En effet, nous ne nous trouvons pas dans un Centre Vidéotron rempli à bloc, mais à travers tout ce qui se passe à Québec ce soir-là, plusieurs fidèles ont opté pour ce spectacle. De mon côté, je m’y dirige, caméra en main, pour photographier mon tout premier spectacle dans cette salle. En arrivant sur le parterre, la première chose que je remarque est la configuration en « T » de la scène : une scène principale reliant une scène B qui se divise elle-même en deux plus petits blocs. Cette division permet une belle proximité avec le public et tous les groupes l’ont utilisée à son plein potentiel. Nous nous installons pour le début du premier spectacle : FROM ASHES TO NEW.

FROM ASHES TO NEW
C’est dans une ambiance sombre et sur une chanson des BACKSTREET BOYS que le groupe prend place sur scène pour ouvrir la soirée. Mais quel look! J’ai découvert ce groupe depuis peu et j’ai eu la chance de voir quelques-unes de leurs chansons au Vans Warped Tour à Washington, D.C., l’été dernier. Je me souviens avoir été agréablement surprise et, bien que l’ambiance en salle soit différente, c’est encore le cas ce soir.

Ils ouvrent sur « New Disease », une des chansons que j’apprécie particulièrement. Les membres du groupe s’échangent le « spotlight » régulièrement. Chaque membre du groupe est mis de l’avant et ça démontre une belle chimie.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA
C’est ensuite au tour de COHEED AND CAMBRIA de prendre place sur scène. On apprécie particulièrement DJ ROCKFEED, qui continue de mettre l’ambiance dans la salle pendant les changeovers. C’est un groupe que je connais assez bien, merci au jeu Rock Band qui me les a fait découvrir avec la chanson « Welcome Home », qui fait d’ailleurs, sans aucun doute, partie du spectacle de ce soir. C’est toutefois la première fois que je les vois en spectacle. J’écoutais surtout leur musique étant plus jeune, c’est donc une bonne occasion de m’y replonger.

L’ambiance change assez radicalement, autant au niveau du style musical que de l’éclairage. On passe du rouge sombre à une ambiance plus colorée, avec des lumières bleues éclatantes et des stroboscopes. Ils ont leur style bien à eux, peut-être moins accessible pour certains. C’est peut-être ce qui me rejoint, personnellement.

SHINEDOWN
C’est maintenant le moment tant attendu par la foule : SHINEDOWN monte sur scène. La dernière fois qu’ils ont joué à Québec, c’était il y a quatre ans et le chanteur, Brent Smith, dit qu’ils ont considéré cela comme l’un de leurs meilleurs spectacles. Il nous met au défi de faire de ce soir LE meilleur spectacle. Je m’attendais à un spectacle très visuel et, en effet, ils ne nous font pas attendre! Le spectacle commence sur une mise en scène avec des personnages aux masques rouges et une tête en forme de télévision.

Ils débutent ensuite leur première chanson, « Safe and Sound », et les effets spéciaux ainsi que la pyrotechnie embarquent au même moment. Fidèles à mes attentes, ils nous offrent une solide performance! Le groupe alterne les chansons plus rythmées avec celles plus relaxes, ainsi que les vieux classiques avec les morceaux plus récents. Peu importe l’âge ou les goûts des spectateurs, il y en avait pour chacun. Ils se promènent beaucoup sur scène, se rapprochant des spectateurs à plusieurs reprises. Il y a également beaucoup d’interactions avec la foule tout au long du spectacle.

En effet, environ à la moitié du spectacle, ils se sont dirigés vers la petite scène « centrale » afin de nous offrir quatre chansons, entourés de leur foule, en débutant cette section du spectacle par une version acoustique de « Call Me ». SHINEDOWN

C’est peut-être dû à cette proximité avec le public, mais on dirait que ce moment a amené la foule à se dégêner encore plus. Nous voyons de plus en plus de gens debout bouger dans les estrades. À quelques reprises, notamment lors de la chanson « Searchlight », nous avons vu la salle s’illuminer de lumières. C’était vraiment beau avec l’ambiance de la chanson. Et parlons-en! SHINEDOWN a vraiment su réveiller des émotions ce soir! Je suis certaine que je ne suis pas la seule à avoir eu les larmes aux yeux à quelques moments…

Leur bassiste original, Eric Bass, fait présentement une pause de la tournée afin de prendre soin de sa santé mentale. On a une pensée pour lui. Pour l’occasion, c’était Zack Mack qui était de la partie pour prendre la relève. Je ne suis aucunement déçue de la prestation qu’il a donnée, surtout considérant qu’il a eu très peu de temps pour apprendre toutes les chansons! Je lui lève mon chapeau pour avoir rendu le tout avec talent. D’ailleurs, SHINEDOWN est impliqué dans plusieurs organisations et fondations, par exemple pour la prévention du suicide ou la lutte contre le cancer. Ce soir, chaque billet vendu a permis d’amasser 1 $ pour la fondation « City of Hope » pour le cancer.

Another nostalgic evening for me tonight! Lately, we’ve really been spoiled with shows that bring back bands that take me back to my teenage years. Tonight, the show is at the Videotron Centre, featuring SHINEDOWN, COHEED AND CAMBRIA, and FROM ASHES TO NEW With the FEQ featuring THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS as the opening act for KESHA, it was probably a tough choice for some. Indeed, the Centre Vidéotron isn’t fully packed, but given everything else going on in Quebec City that night, many loyal fans opted for this show. As for me, I headed there, camera in hand, to photograph my very first show at this venue. Upon arriving on the floor, the first thing I noticed was the stage’s “T” configuration: a main stage connected to a secondary stage, which itself was divided into two smaller sections. This layout allowed for great intimacy with the audience, and all the bands made full use of it.

We settled in for the start of the first show: FROM ASHES TO NEW.

It was in a dark atmosphere, with a Backstreet Boys song playing, that the band took the stage to kick off the evening. And what a look! I discovered this band not long ago and was lucky enough to see them perform a few songs at the Vans Warped Tour in Washington, D.C., last summer. I remember being pleasantly surprised, and although the atmosphere in the venue is different, that’s still the case tonight. They open with “New Disease,” one of their songs I particularly enjoy. The band members take turns in the spotlight. Each member gets their moment in the spotlight, and it really shows their great chemistry.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA
Next up, it’s COHEED AND CAMBRIA’s turn to take the stage. We especially appreciate DJ ROCKFEED, who keeps the energy high in the venue during the set changes. It’s a band I know pretty well, thanks to the video game *Rock Band*, which introduced me to them with the song “Welcome Home », which is definitely part of tonight’s setlist. This is, however, the first time I’ve seen them live. I used to listen to their music mostly when I was younger, so this is a great opportunity to rediscover it. The atmosphere changes quite dramatically, both in terms of musical style and lighting. We go from dark red to a more colorful atmosphere, with bright blue lights and strobe effects. They have a style all their own, perhaps less accessible to some. Maybe that’s what resonates with me personally.

SHINEDOWN
Now comes the moment the crowd has been waiting for: SHINEDOWN takes the stage. The last time they played in Quebec City was four years ago, and lead singer Brent Smith says they considered that one of their best shows. He challenges us to make tonight THE best show ever. I was expecting a very visually stunning show, and sure enough, they don’t keep us waiting! The show opens with a stage set featuring characters wearing red masks and a TV-shaped head. They then launch into their first song, “Safe and Sound,” and the special effects and pyrotechnics kick off at the same time. Just as I expected, they deliver a solid performance! The band alternates between upbeat songs and more laid-back ones, as well as old classics and newer tracks. No matter the audience’s age or musical tastes, there was something for everyone. They moved around the stage a lot, getting close to the audience on several occasions. There’s also plenty of interaction with the crowd throughout the show. In fact, about halfway through the show, they made their way to the small “central” stage to perform four songs surrounded by the crowd, kicking off this section of the show with an acoustic version of “Call Me.” Maybe it’s because of this closeness to the audience, but it seems like this moment really got the crowd going even more. We’re seeing more and more people standing up and moving around in the seating area. A few times, especially during the song “Searchlight,” we saw the venue light up with lights. It was really beautiful and fit the song’s atmosphere perfectly. And let’s talk about that! SHINEDOWN really knew how to stir up emotions tonight! I’m sure I’m not the only one who had tearing eyes at a few moments…

Their original bassist, Eric Bass, is currently taking a break from the tour to focus on his mental health. Our thoughts are with him. For this show, Zack Mack stepped in to fill in. I wasn’t at all disappointed with his performance, especially considering he had very little time to learn all the songs! I applaud him for pulling it all off so skillfully. In fact, SHINEDOWN is engaged in several organizations and foundations, such as those dedicated to suicide prevention and the fight against cancer. Tonight, every ticket sold raised $1 for the “City of Hope” cancer foundation.
