BABOUNE + SUDDEN WAVES + FRAGILE | PHOQUE OFF 2026 – L’ANTI | 17.02.2026

Pour ma part, le mois de février a commencé sur une mauvaise note… Défis, fatigue, virus : l’hiver à lui seul réussit à me démoraliser. Heureusement, à Québec, février amène aussi le début du PHOQUE OFF, un festival déjanté de musique alternative. C’est bien ce qui motive moi et plusieurs autres personnes à sortir un mardi soir après 22 h. Pour ma part, c’est ma première soirée au PHOQUE OFF cette année et ce soir, ce sont BABOUNE, SUDDEN WAVES et FRAGILE qui sont en vitrine à l’ANTI BAR ET SPECTACLE. En voyant le line-up, je savais déjà que ce qui m’attendait ce soir-là serait une soirée mémorable, et je ne me suis pas trompée. Même si SUDDEN WAVES est le groupe pour lequel je me déplaçais au départ, la soirée complète a largement dépassé mes attentes et m’a permis de faire de belles découvertes qui s’ajouteront forcément à ma playlist !

BABOUNE
Pile à l’heure prévue, les membres du groupe montent sur scène et lancent le spectacle. Un coup d’œil à la foule me convainc : malgré l’heure tardive, les gens sont au rendez-vous. La salle se remplit et le public s’approche pour accueillir le groupe en beauté. Dès les premières notes, la foule se met en action dans le pit. Et que dire du groupe sur scène !? On ne s’ennuie pas à les regarder : leur présence scénique est solide. Le chanteur, saute partout, donne des coups de pied dans les airs ou se “garroche” sur le stage.

Et leur musique aussi, elle “garroche” ! Exactement ce dont j’avais besoin pour me défouler. Le groupe enchaîne les chansons les unes après les autres, laissant très peu de place aux interactions avec le public. Dans un contexte où le temps de prestation est limité, il n’y a pas une minute à perdre afin de nous en donner le plus possible ! Après une vingtaine de minutes de prestation intense, ils laissent place à SUDDEN WAVES. La foule est bien réchauffée, prête pour la suite.

SUDDEN WAVES
J’avais particulièrement hâte de voir SUDDEN WAVES ce soir. Après avoir assisté à leur spectacle à La Source de la Martinière en 2023, j’en voulais encore ! Et ce soir, mes attentes ont été largement comblées. Sans trop nous faire attendre, le groupe montréalais débute sa performance sur “Powerslide”.

Le côté plus agressif de BABOUNE laisse place à une alliance intéressante entre le hardcore et le pop-punk… exactement dans mes cordes ! L’ambiance change légèrement, mais pas trop. Un regard derrière moi me confirme que la salle est bien remplie : les gens sont attentifs, bougent, et certains plus fidèles chantent quelques paroles. Le groupe sait s’adresser à la foule pour nous faire embarquer. Une fois de plus, on a droit à une présence scénique marquante et à un set parfaitement adapté à l’événement. Le groupe mélange morceaux récents et chansons du premier album, et c’est sur “Meet Me Halfway” que le set se termine en beauté.

FRAGILE
Tout droit venus de France, c’est maintenant FRAGILE qui prend possession de la scène. Avec quatre micros sur scène, c’est déjà suffisant pour m’intriguer. N’ayant même pas eu l’occasion d’écouter leurs chansons avant le spectacle (shame on me), je n’avais aucune attente : ce sera une surprise totale. On partage avec eux un moment de complicité avant même le début du show. On voit à quel point les membres sont proches. En même temps, ça doit être un trip incroyable de venir de France pour leur tout premier concert au Canada !

Ils commencent à jouer et, quinze secondes plus tard, j’étais déjà charmée. Moi qui n’avais jamais entendu parler du groupe avant, c’est clairement ma découverte de la soirée. C’est punk, c’est emo, c’est wow. On ne fait pas que les écouter : on vit leurs chansons, toutes leurs émotions. Les harmonies vocales participent à cette intensité.

La salle est encore pleine, la foule toujours allumée malgré l’heure qui se fait de plus en plus tardive. Pour la dernière chanson, le chanteur vient rejoindre la foule. J’aurais aimé avoir plus de temps pour les découvrir, car leur set passe très vite, surtout considérant la distance qu’ils ont parcourue pour être là ! Après seulement environ cinq chansons, c’est déjà la fin. Je suis prête à parier que ce n’est pas la dernière fois que nous les verrons à Québec.

À la fin du spectacle, nous sommes invités à sortir rapidement, puisqu’un autre événement prend place à L’ANTI dans le cadre du PHOQUE OFF. Même si je comprends les contraintes d’horaires serrés, je trouve cela dommage, car cela laisse peu de temps pour aller rencontrer ou féliciter les groupes, ou même se procurer de la merch. Je repars cependant satisfaite de ma soirée: une très belle première expérience du PHOQUE OFF 2026.

For me, February got off to a bad start… Challenges, fatigue, viruses: winter alone is enough to get me down. Fortunately, in Quebec City, February also brings the start of the PHOQUE OFF festival, an alternative music festival. That’s what motivates me and many others to go out on a Tuesday night after 10 p.m. For me, it’s my first night at the Phoque OFF festival this year, and tonight, Baboune, Sudden Waves, and Fragile are performing at L’Anti. When I saw the lineup, I knew that tonight would be a memorable evening, and I was right. Even though Sudden Waves was the band I came to see at first, the whole evening far exceeded my expectations and allowed me to make some great discoveries that will definitely be added to my playlist!

BABOUNERight on time, the band members take to the stage and kick off the show. One glance at the crowd convinces me: despite the late hour, people are here. The venue fills up and the audience moves closer to give the band a warm welcome. From the very first notes, the crowd in the pit springs into action. And what can I say about the band on stage? It’s impossible to get bored watching them: their stage presence is solid. The singer jumps around, kicks the air, and throws himself around the stage. And their music throws itself around too! It’s exactly what I needed to get some energy out. The band plays one song after another, leaving very little room for interaction with the audience. With limited performance time, there’s not a minute to lose in order to give us as much as possible! After about twenty minutes of intense performance, they make way for SUDDEN WAVES. The crowd is warmed up and ready for more.

SUDDEN WAVES
I was particularly looking forward to see SUDDEN WAVES tonight. After attending their show at La Source de la Martinière in 2023, I wanted more! And tonight, my expectations were more than exceeded. Without keeping us waiting too long, the band from Montreal kicked off their performance with “Powerslide.” Baboune’s more aggressive side gives way to an interesting alliance between hardcore and pop-punk… right up my style! The atmosphere changes slightly, but not too much. A glance behind me confirms that the room is packed: people are attentive, moving around, and some of the more loyal fans are singing along to a few lyrics. The band knows how to engage the crowd and get us going. Once again, we are treated to a striking stage presence and a set perfectly suited to the event. The band mixes recent tracks with songs from their first album, and it’s with “Meet Me Halfway” that the set ends on a high note.

FRAGILE
All the way from France, FRAGILE now takes the stage. With four microphones on stage, that’s already enough to intrigue me. Not getting the chance to listen to their songs before the show (shame on me), I had no expectations: it will be a total surprise. We share a moment of complicity with them even before the show starts. You can see how close the members are. Then again, it must be an incredible thrill to come all the way from France for their very first concert in Canada!

They start playing, and fifteen seconds later, I’m already charmed. Never having heard of the band before, they are clearly my discovery of the evening. It’s punk, it’s emo, it’s WOW. We don’t just listen to them: we live their songs, all their emotions. The vocal harmonies contribute to this intensity. The venue is still full, the crowd still fired up despite the late hour. For the last song, the singer comes down into the crowd. I wish I had more time to discover them, because their set goes by very quickly, especially considering how far they’ve traveled to be here! After only about five songs, it’s already over. I’m willing to bet this isn’t the last time we’ll see them in Quebec City.

At the end of the show, we are asked to leave quickly, as another event is taking place at  L’ANTI as part of the PHOQUE OFF festival. Although I understand the constraints of tight schedules, I find it a little disappointing, as it leaves very little time to meet or congratulate the bands, or even buy some merch. However, I leave satisfied with my evening: a wonderful first experience of the PHOQUE OFF festival 2026.
