CARAVANE + HIDDEN BLISS + RÉMI CYR| LA SOURCE DE LA MARTINIERE | QUEBEC | 16.12.2022

Pour le retour de la « Caravane des fêtes », justement nommée celle de la Renaissance, le groupe bien-aimé de Québec a mis le paquet et nous a donné un très beau cadeau. CARAVANE, c’est bien sur un album, mais c’est encore mieux sur scène…

En ouverture de cette belle soirée, la formation HIDDEN BLISS et le multi-instrumentiste RÉMI CYR. Je ne suis malheureusement pas arrivée à temps pour Rémi qui, j’en suis sûre, a su satisfaire ses fans et s’en faire de nouveaux. Pour avoir une idée de ce qu’il fait, lisez mon appréciation de son spectacle avec THE JOHANS ici à l’occasion du Carnaval de 2020.

HIDDEN BLISS est aussi un groupe de Québec, aux sonorités post-grunge et punk rock bruyant, formé de – surprise, surprise – trois filles et un garçon. Encore une fois, le quatuor réussit à exploiter une énergie contagieuse, avec Ariane au micro et Nicolas à la guitare, sautant partout et criant avec conviction. On a eu droit à une setlist assez complète et on a pu entendre deux pièces d’un nouvel album, qui devrait sortir en 2023.

Voir CARAVANE en show, c’est un plaisir renouvelé chaque fois, même si on sait à quoi s’attendre (et peut-être parce qu’on sait à quoi s’attendre). L’arrivée sur scène, l’ambiance enveloppante, l’authenticité des musiciens, l’interprétation juste, les ballounes, la communion avec les fans, qui chantent en chœur, et la confiance entre l’artiste et ses admirateurs. Et surtout, l’intensité : celle de la voix, de l’émotion, de la présence.

Les fidèles étaient si nombreux qu’ils ont réchauffé la salle au point d’en avoir les cheveux mouillés.

Dominic en pantalon à paillettes était prêt pour son bain de foule rituel pendant « Pyramides », David (guitare) a quand même gardé sa tuque toute la soirée, Raphaël (basse) est resté en retrait avec William (batterie), caché dans la boucane.

On a été gratifiés d’une nouveauté, « Wo menute », de l’hommage amoureux « Maxyme » et d’un rappel généreux avec « Arago » (censée nous calmer) et « Briser ton cœur ». Enfin enfin, on a pu se laisser aller comme on ne l’a pas fait depuis trop longtemps, sans souci, entourés de gens qui avaient le cœur à la fête. 

La caravane est passée, la neige peut tomber.

For the return of the « Caravan of the Holidays », aptly named the Renaissance Caravan, the beloved Quebec City band has pulled out all the stops and given us a great gift. CARAVANE is a good recording band, but they’re even better on stage…

HIDDEN BLISS and multi-instrumentalist RÉMI CYR were opening this beautiful evening. Unfortunately, I did not arrive in time for Rémi who, I’m sure, made his fans happy and made new ones. To get an idea of what he does, read my review of his show with THE JOHANS here at Carnaval 2020.

HIDDEN BLISS, also from Quebec City, loudly inspired by post-grunge and punk rock, is made up of – surprise, surprise – three gals and a guy. Once again, the quartet managed to harness an infectious energy, with Ariane on mic and Nicolas on guitar, jumping around and screaming with conviction. We were treated to a pretty full setlist and we got to hear two songs from a new album, due out in 2023.

Seeing CARAVANE live is always a pleasure, even when you know what to expect (and maybe because you know what to expect). The entrance on stage, the enveloping atmosphere, the authenticity of the musicians, the right interpretation, the balloons, the communion with the fans –singing in chorus, and the trust between the artist and his admirers. And above all, the intensity: that of the voice, of the emotion, of the presence. The faithful were so numerous that they warmed up the room to the point of sweating. Dominic in sequined pants was ready for his ritual crowdsurfing during « Pyramides », David (guitar) kept his toque on all night, Raphael (bass) stayed back with William (drums), hidden in the fog. We were graced with a novelty, « Wo menute », the loving tribute « Maxyme » and a generous encore with « Arago » (meant to calm us down) and « Briser ton cœur ». Finally, finally, we were able to let loose like we couldn’t for too long, without worry, surrounded by people who had a heart to celebrate. 

The caravan has gone by, the snow may fall now.
