ROUGE POMPIER + POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL + HIPSHOT | L’ANTI BAR & SPECTACLES | QUEBEC | 14.06.2023
Quand on m’a demandé de couvrir la soirée du 14 juin à l’Anti, je me suis dit : « Pourquoi pas ? Ça va faire changement des shows que je vois d’habitude, ça va être relaxe. » Hahaha ! Je me mettais le doigt dans l’œil. C’était une soirée plutôt énergique, finalement, tout en crescendo.
HIPSHOT
C’est le quatuor HIPSHOT qui a ouvert la soirée. Le groupe, qui défini son style de caramel grunge nous a démontré que le grunge, ce n’est pas que de la musique à écouter assis relaxe dans son sofa. Malgré une foule timide (c’est un mercredi à Québec, quand même !), ils ont fait hocher plusieurs têtes avec des titres comme Strait Into.
Ils ont enchainé en invitant leur ami Nickolas Verrecchia à chanter leur plus récent extrait, pour lequel il a également collaboré à l’écriture : Played Out.
Un peu plus tard, j’ai bien rit de voir les grands et gros barbus chanter avec Marie la reprise de Touch me de Samantha Fox.
Le groupe nous a aussi présenté quelques nouveaux morceaux dont Forgiven, qu’Alex, le guitariste, a dédiée à ceux qui n’aiment pas Metallica. J’ai hâte d’avoir le temps de l’écouter afin de bien entendre et comprendre les paroles, ça m’intrigue.
POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL (P3C)
Je ne connaissais pas du tout POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL avant cette semaine. J’ai donc fait quelques recherches avant d’assister au show. Ceux qui connaissent le groupe me disaient tous que j’allais tripper, que c’était dément, etc. Mais ce que j’ai trouvé comme extraits sur YouTube ne me convainquait pas. J’ai décidé de laisser au groupe la chance de me prouver que j’avais tord… et ils ont carrément réussi!
P3C est un groupe punk rock originaire de France qui semble carburer à l’énergie de la foule devant eux. Fait à retenir, la bassiste, Lola, est à l’origine du mouvement More Women on Stage.
La foule ecore timide au début de leur prestation s’est rapidement réveillée au son et devant la prestation hyper énergique de P3C. Le groupe a un son bien à eux, qui regroupe un mélange de styles assez particulier. Certaines de leur transitions, qu’on pourrait trouver douteuses de prime abord ont finalement été gagnantes. Ont pouvait sentir juste en voyant la foule éclectique qui était là pour les voir.
POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL a réussi à rassembler dans le pit autant les métaleux que les punks et autres “undergrounds”. Ils ont d’ailleurs eu droit à un “super mosh pit” pour le dernier morceau.
ROUGE POMPIER
Qui ne connait pas ROUGE POMPIER? Tout le monde qui, à l’occasion, écoute la radio en voiture connait au moins une chanson. Encore plus si vous avez écouté ROCK 100,9 à l’époque ou si vous écoutez encore les soirées franco d’une certaine radio controversée de Québec. En tout cas, c’est comme ça que moi, je les ai découverts. Et la première fois que je les avais vu en show, j’ai été tellement déçue. Ok, on comprend que ROUGE POMPIER c’est juste 2 gars, Alex et Jess Pompier, dont un joue du drumm et l’autre chante en jouant de la guitare. Ils sont donc moins “mobiles” que des bands à plusieurs membres. Bref, lors de mon premier show de ROUGE POMPIER, j’ai trouvé qu’ils n’interragissaient pas avec la foule, qu’ils avaient l’air de jouer ensemble dans leur sous-sol plutôt que sur le super stage où ils étaient.
Eh bien! Ce en ce mercredi 14 juin 2023, je me suis réconcilliée avec ROUGE POMPIER. Ça arrive, des jours “sans”. Mais ce n’était vraiment pas le cas cette fois-ci. WOW! Ils ont compris comment “entertainer” une foule! Et la foule le leur rend bien. Le public a chanté avec ROUGE POMPIER dès la première note de Paquet d’chose. Les Anne Dorval, Rapelle moi encore, Mercredi, Concours de circonstances, Neve Campbell ont fait un carton!
On a eu droit, pour Neve Campbell, à la participation de Max Moisan à la bass et Fred Pompier au tambourin. Fred a d’ailleurs été présent un peu tout au long de la prestation de ROUGE POMPIER. Le groupe a eu droit à un beau “circle pitt” sur Rappelle-moi encore.
Côté mouvement, Jessy se promenait entre 2 micros : un qui faisait face à la foule, l’autre faisant face à Alex et son drum. Et pendant Concours de circonstance, on a eu droit à un changement de drummer sans qu’on remarque d’interruption. C’était assez fou.
En résumé, une autre excellente soirée à l’Anti, durant laquelle j’ai fait une belle découverte et je me suis réconcilliée avec un groupe que j’aimais bien, finalement.

When I was asked to cover the June 14 event at Anti, I thought, « Why not? It’ll be a change from the shows I usually see, it’ll be relaxed. » Hahaha! I was right. It was a pretty energetic evening, all in all, a crescendo.
HIPSHOT
The HIPSHOT quartet opened the evening. The band, who define their style as caramel grunge, showed us that grunge isn’t just music to listen to while relaxing on the sofa. Despite a shy crowd (it’s a Wednesday in Quebec City, after all!), they got many heads nodding with songs like Strait Into. They went on to invite their friend Nickolas Verrecchia to sing their latest single, for which he also collaborated on the writing: Played Out. A little later, I laughed out loud at the sight of the big, fat bearded men singing a cover of Samantha Fox’s Touch Me with Marie. The band also presented a few new songs, including Forgiven, which guitarist Alex dedicated to those who don’t like Metallica. I can’t wait to listen to it so I can hear and understand the lyrics, it intrigues me.
POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL (P3C)
I didn’t know anything about POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL until this week. So I did a bit of research before attending the show. Those who know the band were all telling me that I was going to have a blast, that it was crazy, etc. But what I found out was that the band had a lot to offer. But what I found on YouTube didn’t convince me. I decided to give the band a chance to prove me wrong… and they totally succeeded! P3C are a punk rock band from France who seem to run on the energy of the crowd in front of them. It’s worth noting that bassist Lola is behind the More Women on Stage movement.
The crowd, shy at the start of their set, quickly woke up to P3C‘s hyper-energetic performance. The band have a sound all their own, with a distinctive blend of styles. Some of their transitions, which at first might seem dubious, turned out to be winners. You could tell by the eclectic crowd that was there to see them. POGO CAR CRASH CONTROL succeeded in bringing metallers, punks and other undergrounds together in the pit. In fact, there was a « super mosh pit » for the last song.
ROUGE POMPIER
Who doesn’t know ROUGE POMPIER? Everyone who occasionally listens to the radio in the car knows at least one song. Even more so if you listened to ROCK 100.9 back in the day, or if you still listen to the franco evenings of a certain controversial Quebec radio station. Anyway, that’s how I discovered them. And the first time I saw them live, I was so disappointed. Okay, we understand that ROUGE POMPIER is just 2 guys, Alex and Jess Pompier, one of whom plays drumm and the other sings while playing guitar. So they’re less « mobile » than multi-member bands. In short, at my first ROUGE POMPIER show, I found that they didn’t interact with the crowd, that they seemed to be playing together in their basement rather than on the super stage they were on.
Well, well, well! On this Wednesday, June 14, 2023, I made up with ROUGE POMPIER. It happens, « off » days. But this was definitely not one of them. WOW! They’ve figured out how to entertain a crowd! And the crowd returned the favor. The audience sang along with ROUGE POMPIER from the very first note of Paquet d’chose. Anne Dorval, Rapelle moi encore, Mercredi, Concours de circonstances and Neve Campbell were a hit!
Neve Campbell was joined by Max Moisan on bass and Fred Pompier on tambourine. Fred was present throughout ROUGE POMPIER‘s performance. The band had a great circle pitt on Rappelle-moi encore.
In terms of movement, Jessy wandered between 2 microphones: one facing the crowd, the other facing Alex and his drum. And during Concours de Circumstances, we were treated to a drummer change without any noticeable interruption. It was pretty crazy.
All in all, another excellent evening at l’Anti, during which I made a great discovery and reconnected with a band I used to like.
