VIOLENCE CITY + CHYENEX + BANJAX BRIGADE + WORKER BEES | L’ANTI | 09.03.2024

Un autre samedi pour les Chicks à L’ANTI BAR ET SPECTACLES. Ce soir, on assiste à un événement qui nous tient particulièrement à cœur puisqu’il fait la promotion des femmes au sein de la scène musicale. C’est pour nous une grande fierté de supporter ces musiciennes de talent et leurs acolytes masculins. La soirée s’annonce festive et remplie de belles découvertes.    

Sur scène, ce soir, quatre bands de la région de Québec. On retrouve une variété de styles, mais ils ont, bien sûr, tous en commun, au moins un membre féminin. Trois bands de composition, soit VIOLENCE CITY, CHYENEX, BANJAX BRIGADE et, pour terminer, un band hommage au groupe canadien BILLY TALENT, WORKER BEES.

VIOLENCE CITY
VIOLENCE CITY brise la glace avec son mix de punk/metal/grunge/alternatif. Un jeune trio de Québec qui fait des spectacles depuis 2023 seulement et qui a déjà une belle aisance sur scène. Le chanteur/guitariste nous met rapidement dans l’ambiance. Il a une voix puissante et on voit bien qu’il vit et ressent les textes.

Une musique plutôt sombre avec une voix tantôt clean, tantôt agressive avec quelques screams qui donnent froid dans le dos.

CHYENEX
Le second groupe est CHYENEX, un son pop-punk, plus accessible et définitivement plus facile à chanter pour moi. La représentante féminine de ce trio, également de Québec, est nulle autre que notre Chicks Claudia, à la batterie et au chant!

Elle est accompagnée de Gab au chant et à la guitare, et de Keven à la basse.

J’assiste à ma deuxième performance du groupe, qui est actif depuis seulement quelques années. En peu de temps, ils ont fait plusieurs spectacles et acquis une belle expérience de scène.

La petite foule est déjà vendue.  Plusieurs de leurs fans, famille et amis se sont déplacés pour la prestation. Une ambiance party de famille s’installe, j’adore!!

BANJAX BRIGADE
Pour ceux qui n’étaient pas encore réveillés après les deux premiers bands, ils le seront avec la performance de BANJAX BRIGADE, un groupe de punk celtique. Ils ont tout ce qu’il faut. La flûte irlandaise, le banjo, la cornemuse et bien sûr, le kit vestimentaire avec le kilt et tout. Ils ont le look mais surtout le son.

Une musique festive et entraînante parfaite pour le live. On passe de chansons en chansons sans perdre de cette énergie caractéristique du style. On a droit à quelques petites surprises, comme un hommage au chanteur des COWBOYS FRINGANTS, décédé dernièrement, et aussi à quelques classiques des DROPKICK MURPHYS, « Rose Tattoo » et « I’m Shipping up to Boston ».

WORKER BEES – BILLY TALENT EXPERIENCE
C’est l’hommage à BILLY TALENT, WORKER BEES qui clôt la soirée. Je dois l’avouer, je suis déjà vendue. Pas parce que je suis une fan de BILLY TALENT, mais parce que je suis une fan de la bassiste du groupe, Cathia Godbout. Je la suis dans tous ses projets et elle ne cesse de m’épater. Multi-instrumentaliste, elle a choisi la basse pour cet hommage. Ça semble si facile quand on la regarde.

Elle et ses talentueux amis nous offrent une solide performance! Comme toujours, le son de L’ANTI est impeccable, on peut profiter de toutes les subtilités des instruments. Un set complet dans l’intimité. Il se fait tard, beaucoup ont déjà quitté, mais les bands qui ont joué plus tôt sont solidaires et se montrent enthousiastes et chantent en chœur toutes les chansons. Excellente performance du band et plus particulièrement du chanteur, Tommy Turbide qui arrive à rendre le son unique de la voix du chanteur de BILLY TALENT.

Et bien sûr, une drummeuse qui chante ne manque jamais de m’épater et c’était le cas ce soir! Bravo Cynthia!  

La grosseur de la foule n’était définitivement pas à la hauteur de tout le talent qu’il y avait sur scène ce soir. De groupes de la région qui n’ont rien à envier aux grands noms. Merci à tous pour cette superbe soirée. Allez suivre ces bands sur les plateformes d’écoute, ils nous réservent encore bien des surprises!

Another Saturday for the Chicks at L’ANTI BAR ET SPECTACLES. Tonight, we’re here for an event that’s particularly close to our hearts, as it promotes women on the music scene. We’re proud to support these talented female musicians and their male sidekicks. The evening promises to be festive and full of great discoveries.    

On stage tonight, four bands from the Quebec City region. They come in a variety of styles, but what they all have in common, of course, is at least one female member. Three original bands: VIOLENCE CITY, CHYENEX and BANJAX BRIGADE, and finally, a tribute band to Canadian band BILLY TALENT, WORKER BEES.

VIOLENCE CITY
VIOLENCE CITY breaks the ice with their mix of punk/metal/grunge/alternative. A young trio from Quebec City who’s only been playing shows since 2023, they’re already at ease on stage. The singer/guitarist quickly gets us in the mood. His voice is powerful, and it’s obvious that he’s living and feeling the lyrics. The music is rather dark, with a voice that’s sometimes clean, sometimes aggressive, with a few spine-chilling screams.

CHYENEX
Second band is CHYENEX, with a pop-punk sound that’s more accessible and definitely easier to sing along to for me. The female representative of this trio, also from Quebec City, is none other than our very own Chicks Claudia, on drums and vocals! She’s accompanied by Gab on vocals and guitar, and Keven on bass. It’s the second time I get to see the band, which has been active for only a few years. During that short time, they’ve played a number of shows and acquired a great deal of stage experience. The small crowd is already sold out.  Many of their fans, family and friends have turned up for the show. I love the family party atmosphere!

BANJAX BRIGADE
For those who weren’t awake yet after the first two bands, they’ll be awake with the performance of Celtic punk outfit BANJAX BRIGADE. They’ve got it all. Irish flute, banjo, bagpipes and, of course, the dress kit with kilt and all. They’ve got the look, but more importantly, they’ve got the sound. Festive, upbeat music perfect for live performance. They play one song after the other without losing any of the energy characteristic of the style. There are a few little surprises, like a tribute to the recently deceased lead singer of the COWBOYS FRINGANTS, and a couple of DROPKICK MURPHYS classics, « Rose Tattoo » and « I’m Shipping up to Boston ».

WORKER BEES – BILLY TALENT EXPERIENCE
BILLY TALENT tribute WORKER BEES brings the evening to a close. I have to admit, I’m already sold. Not because I’m a BILLY TALENT fan, but because I’m a fan of the band’s bassist, Cathia Godbout. I follow her in all her projects and she never ceases to amaze me. A multi-instrumentalist, she chose the bass for this tribute. It seems so easy when you look at her. She and her talented friends are giving us a solid performance! As always, the sound at L’Anti is impeccable, allowing us to enjoy all the subtleties of the instruments. A complete, intimate set. It’s getting late and many people have already left, but the bands that played earlier stick together, enthusiastically singing along to all the songs. An excellent performance from the band, especially singer Tommy Turbide, who manages to capture Billy Talent’s unique voice. And of course, a singing drummer never fails to amaze me, and that was the case tonight! Bravo Cynthia!  

The size of the crowd was definitely no match for the talent on stage tonight. These local bands are pretty up to par with the big names. Thank you all for a superb evening. Go follow these bands on all streaming platforms, they’ve still got a lot of surprises in store for us!
