PAPA ROACH* + GRIMSKUNK + GROOVY AARDVARK + TAXI GIRLS | FESTIVENT DE LÉVIS | 31.07.2026

Quarante-troisième édition du Festivent de Lévis, première visite pour moi en tant que spectatrice et aussi en tant que photographe-chroniqueuse! J’ai bien hâte de découvrir cet événement! J’arrive à l’avance, puisque je ne connais pas encore le coin. J’ai bien fait car il n’y a pas de stationnement “officiel”. Il faut trouver une place dans les rues résidentielles autour, qui sont achalandées, ou sinon payer pour se placer dans un stationnement commercial juste à côté (pas question que je joue à ce jeu là). Je me trouve une place dans une rue et je choisis de marcher.

À l’origine un festival de montgolfières uniquement, l’événement a pris de l’ampleur il y a plusieurs années et présente depuis des concerts. Le site n’est pas très grand, mais offre beaucoup : animation en après-midi, manèges (dont le fameux Zipper), zones pour enfants et pour relaxer, camions de bouffe, zone de départ et d’atterrissage pour les spectacles aériens, et bien sûr les deux scènes. Il fait beau il fait chaud, je revois des comparses photographes, ce sera plaisant.

Pour respecter le voisinage, les concerts commencent dès 18h30, ce soir avec les TAXI GIRLS. J’aime bien ce groupe de Montréal que j’ai déjà vu à L’ANTI, autant pour le look et l’attitude que pour leur tounes revendicatrices courtes et efficaces typiques du style punk.

Je trouve dommage par contre qu’il y ait peu de monde, ça ne bougeait pas beaucoup et on dirait que les gens n’accrochent pas; d’après moi, peut-être simplement que c’est trop tôt dans la soirée, ou que c’est la première première partie. Les TAXI GIRLS ont définitivement leur place sur (la) scène en général, mais j’ai l’impression que ça attire plus en petite salle que dans un festival.

Suivent GRIMSKUNK et GROOVY AARDVARK, deux des piliers du heavy rock alternatif au Québec. J’aime vraiment les groupes polyvalents comme eux – on peut entendre leurs influences musicales multiples, et leur naturel, leur enthousiasme et leur professionnalisme sur scène est fantastique à voir. C’est fou comme la rythmique résonne au point de remplir l’espace – la musique vibre partout et on ne peut pas s’empêcher de battre la cadence, en particulier quand les deux batteurs jouent en même temps.

Ce n’est pas la première fois que les deux groupes sont ensemble sur scène (je l’ai vu dans un autre festival), mais cette fois-ci la prestation me semble moins spectaculaire, car il y a moins d’accessoires et surtout, pas de séance de tambours à cinq ou six. Par contre, le fils d’un des batteurs viendra danser pour deux ou trois chansons, et Pat Gauthier viendra chanter “Ingurgitus” avec conviction, un des moments forts de la prestation.

Ça déménage et c’est peu dire haha! GRIMSKUNK et GROOVY AARDVARK auront joué pendant une grosse heure et demie, alternant les chansons comme un feu roulant, et réussi à faire embarquer la foule à 100%.

This the 43rd edition of the Festivent de Lévis, but my first time attending as both a spectator and a photographer-reporter! I can’t wait to find out all about it! I’m arriving early since I’m not familiar with the area yet. It’s a good thing I did, because there’s no “official” parking. You have to find a spot on the residential streets nearby, already packed, or else pay to park in a commercial lot right next to the site (no way am I playing that game). I find a spot on a street and decide to walk.

Originally just a hot-air balloon festival, the event expanded several years ago and has featured concerts ever since. The site isn’t very large, but it has a lot to offer: afternoon entertainment, rides (including the famous Zipper), areas for kids and for relaxing, food trucks, a takeoff and landing area for the air shows, and, of course, the two stages. The weather is nice and warm, and I’m running into some fellow photographers—it’s going to be a fun time.

To be considerate of the neighborhood, shows start at 6:30 p.m.—tonight with the TAXI GIRLS. I really like this band from Montreal, which I’ve already seen at L’Anti, as much for their look and attitude as for their short, punchy protest songs typical of the punk genre. I do think it’s a shame, though, that there aren’t many people yet; the crowd wasn’t really moving, and it seems like people aren’t really into it—in my opinion, maybe it’s just too early in the evening, or maybe it’s because they’re the very first opening act. The TAXI GIRLS definitely have their place on the music scene in general, but I get the impression they draw bigger crowds in smaller venues than at fests.

Next up are GRIMSKUNK and GROOVY AARDVARK, two pillars of the alternative heavy rock scene in Quebec. I really love versatile bands like them—you can hear their diverse musical influences, and their authenticity, enthusiasm, and professionalism on stage are fantastic to watch. It’s amazing how the rhythm section resonates to the point of filling the entire space—the music vibrates everywhere, and you can’t help but nod along, especially when both drummers play alongside. This isn’t the first time the two bands have shared the stage (I saw them at another fest), but this time the performance seems less spectacular to me, since there are fewer props and, most importantly, no five- or six-person drum session. On the other hand, the son of one of the drummers came out to dance for two or three songs, and Pat Gauthier came on to sing “Ingurgitus” with determination—one of the highlights of the show. It’s a wild ride—and that’s an understatement, haha! GRIMSKUNK and GROOVY AARDVARK played for a solid hour and a half, firing off songs one after another, and managed to get the crowd 100% on board.
