SONS OF ARRAKIS + AAWKS + TRU§H | L’ANTI | 10.03.2023

Ouf!

SONS OF ARRAKIS

Whew! What a night of visceral vibrations on the second to last date of SONS OF ARRAKIS‘ Wormhole Tour, a mini-tour of Quebec and Ontario that stopped at L’Anti for the greatest pleasure of our ears in need of full force fuzz.

Montreal’s TRU§H started off by making their cabs spit out for the first time on stage, and let me tell you, it was pretty powerful. With a singer-bassist, I don’t think you can’t expect anything less. The quartet set the tone by defining the mood for the rest of the whole night. A great first for them. (I should mention, however, that the keyboardist was barely audible, unfortunately).

Next, AAWKS played the majority of their debut album (((((Heavy On The Cosmic))))) as well as a new song « Lost Dwellers », which is expected to be released on a future album in 2024. The trio took over the entire soundscape, thanks to a rhythm section passionately led by drummer Randy. The sound seemed to be well balanced to me, you could clearly hear the vocals and the guitar, and if you closed your eyes you were somewhere else, in the time and space of your liking.

Finally, after the prologue for the movie « Dune », the story around which their compositions revolve, SONS OF ARRAKIS also served us excerpts from their first album Volume I, as well as some new tracks like « Scattering », which will appear on… Volume II, of course. The band maintained the breathless pace that was set from the beginning, with no breaks or ballads. The SG guitar trio was seriously in sync, and the whole thing was just as tight. The small number of fans in attendance stayed calm, but certainly enjoyed the performance on an auditory level, because on the visual level, if the band intended to replicate the sandstorms found on the planet Arrakis, well, they sure succeeded.

Brief but intense, in the stoner/psychedelic genre, this lineup was perfect. I’m strongly inviting you to not miss one of these bands next time!
