Il y a des soirs où une salle devient plus qu’un simple lieu de diffusion musicale. À LA SOURCE DE LA MARTINIÈRE, la halte québécoise du PAGAN FOLK METAL TOUR 2026 en était clairement un. Salle presque pleine, public attentif, énergie brute : tous les ingrédients étaient réunis pour une soirée mémorable.

Les premiers à fouler la scène furent les Québécois de TROLLWAR. Sans détour ni compromis, le groupe a imposé son black metal épique avec assurance.

Riffs incisifs, atmosphères sombres et attitude martiale : TROLLWAR a fait exactement ce qu’un groupe d’ouverture solide doit faire; capter l’attention et préparer le terrain. Le public local, visiblement acquis à leur cause, ne s’y est pas trompé.

La transition s’est faite vers des territoires encore plus obscurs avec MALPHAS, formation américaine de black metal froid et ritualiste. Ici, pas de folklore ni de grandes envolées mélodiques : MALPHAS avance, implacable, enveloppant la salle d’une noirceur dense et hypnotique.

Leur performance, austère et un peu chaotique par moments, a pourtant réussi à captiver l’auditoire, l’entraînant dans un état quasi méditatif… juste avant que la tempête ARKONA ne déferle sur la scène.

La tête d’affiche, ARKONA,n’est pas simplement montée sur scène : le groupe a pris possession de la salle. Dès les premières notes, quelque chose a changé dans l’air. La musique, enracinée dans les traditions slaves, a réveillé une énergie collective difficile à décrire autrement que comme un rituel païen vivant.

Un détail marquant, et franchement fascinant, s’est imposé au fil de leur prestation : plusieurs personnes dans la foule dansaient selon des mouvements clairement folkloriques, loin du simple headbang classique. Intrigué, j’ai discuté avec un couple pendant le spectacle. Ils étaient de Moldavie, et m’ont confirmé que ces danses étaient directement inspirées de leur culture d’Europe de l’Est. À ce moment-là, ARKONA cessait d’être un simple groupe en tournée : il devenait un pont culturel, un rappel vivant de racines encore bien ancrées.

Menée par l’impressionnante Masha « Scream », la formation russe a livré une performance puissante, habitée, presque spirituelle.

À noter qu’ARKONA se présentait en formation réduite pour cette date, le bassiste étant absent de la scène. Aucune explication officielle n’a été communiquée par le groupe concernant cette absence. Les parties de basse étaient toutefois audibles, suggérant l’utilisation de pistes préenregistrées, un choix qui n’a en rien nui à la puissance ni à l’impact global de la performance. Chaque morceau semblait appeler à la communion, et le public, qu’il soit local ou venu de loin, a répondu avec ferveur. Cette soirée à Québec n’était pas qu’un concert metal de plus. C’était une rencontre entre scènes, cultures et traditions, réunies par une même passion. Cette tournée du Pagan Folk Metal Tour 2026 a prouvé, une fois de plus, que le metal peut être à la fois extrême, rassembleur et profondément humain.

There are nights when a venue becomes more than just a place to play and listen to music. At LA SOURCE DE LA MARTINIÈRE, the Quebec stop on the PAGAN FOLK METAL TOUR 2026, it was clearly one of those nights. A nearly full house, an attentive audience, raw energy: all the ingredients were there for a memorable evening.

First on stage were Quebec’s TROLLWAR. Without hesitation or compromise, the band imposed their epic black metal with confidence. Incisive riffs, dark atmosphere, and a martial attitude: TROLLWAR did exactly what a solid opening band should do—capture the audience’s attention and set the stage. The local audience, clearly won over to their cause, was not mistaken.

We then went into even darker territories with MALPHAS, an American band playing cold and ritualistic black metal. This was not the time for folklore or grand melodic flourish: MALPHAS advanced relentlessly, shrouding the room in a dense and hypnotic darkness. Their performance, austere and a little chaotic at times, nevertheless managed to captivate the audience, drawing them into an almost meditative state… just before the ARKONA storm broke over the stage.

Headliner ARKONA didn’t just take to the stage: the band took possession of the room. From the very first notes, something changed in the air. The music, rooted in Slavic traditions, awakened a collective energy that can only be described as a living pagan ritual.

One striking and frankly fascinating detail stood out during their performance: several people in the crowd were dancing in a clearly folkloric style, far removed from the typical headbanging. Intrigued, I spoke to one couple during the show. They were from Moldova and confirmed that these dances were directly inspired by their Eastern European culture. At that moment, ARKONA were not just a band on tour: it became a cultural bridge, a living reminder of roots that are still firmly anchored.

Led by Masha “Scream,” as impressive as ever, the Russian band delivered a powerful, intense, almost spiritual performance. It should be noted that ARKONA performed with a reduced lineup for this date, as the bassist was absent. No official explanation was given by the band regarding this absence. However, the bass parts were audible, suggesting the use of pre-recorded tracks, a choice that in no way detracted from the power or overall impact of the performance. Each song seemed to call for communion, and the audience, whether local or from afar, responded fervently.

This evening in Québec City was not just another metal concert. It was a meeting of scenes, cultures, and traditions, united by a shared passion. This Pagan Folk Metal Tour 2026 proved, once again, that metal can be extreme, unifying, and deeply human all at once.
