BURNING WITCHES + THUNDEROR + TROLLWAR | LA SOURCE DE LA MARTINIÈRE | 21.04.2026

La scène métal canadienne a vibré fort en avril avec l’arrivée des suisses de BURNING WITCHES, en tournée pour la toute première fois au pays, accompagnées du trio torontois THUNDEROR.

Une tournée attendue, presque symbolique, qui marque une étape importante pour BURNING WITCHES. Le groupe s’est imposé au fil des années comme une figure forte du heavy/power metal européen, et voir enfin cette formation fouler les scènes canadiennes avait quelque chose de spécial.

De notre côté, on a assisté au show du 21 avril à Quebec, et clairement, l’énergie était au rendez-vous dès les premières notes. La soirée s’est ouverte avec TROLLWAR, qui a rapidement mis la table avec son mélange efficace de folk et de metal, réchauffant une foule déjà bien réceptive.

Et  malgré l’absence du bassiste, ils n’ont pas perdu en puissance, l’ambiance était épique et propice aux histoires fantastiques et guerrières. Ne manquait que les D20 et les jets de sauvegardes contre la magie et « game on D&G ».

Puis, THUNDEROR a pris le relais avec une performance solide et accrocheuse. En pleine promotion de leur nouvel album Bleed For It, le groupe livre un set calibré, entre heavy metal classique et touches plus théâtrales, avec une présence scénique qui fait le pont entre old school et modernité.

D’ailleurs, Bleed For It sert de bande originale à une comédie musicale (« Thunderor The Musical ») qui raconte l’histoire de Bowen, un musicien et motard cherchant la gloire, mêlant des intrigues d’amour, de rébellion et de découverte de soi. Une performance sauce arena rock.

C’est sur l’intro Sanguini Hominum que Laura et ses « soeurs sorcières » traversent la foule. Et quand BURNING WITCHES monte sur scène, le ton change encore d’un cran. Mélodies tranchantes, attitude assumée, et une maîtrise qui rappelle directement les grandes influences du genre; on pense à Judas Priest, mais avec une signature bien à elles. Laura, la queen witch, est vocalement très puissante et elle nous rappelle Doro Pesch légendaire chanteuse allemande. Le public, à quelques pouces à peine, reçoit cette déferlante d’acier de plein fouet.

Une prestation sans faille, extrêmement fidèle a ce que l’on entend sur leurs albums, mais avec un feu intense qui brule, marque et ensorcèle. Les procès pour sorcellerie et la rude ère médiévale se raconte a travers la voix envoutante de Laura. La pièce Inquisition illustre parfaitement leur fascination pour la résistance face à l’oppression religieuse, tout en soulignant l’atmosphère sombre de cette funeste époque.Quelle prestation! On en revient pas encore.

Ce qui marque surtout dans cette tournée, c’est le choix des salles. Ici, pas de distance, pas de filtre : une proximité directe avec les bands, une ambiance brute, presque viscérale et ce sentiment d’assister à quelque chose de vrai.

Ce format plus intime donne une autre dimension au spectacle, c’est automatiquement plus intense, plus humain et plus mémorable.

Au final, cette tournée BURNING WITCHES + THUNDEROR, c’est exactement ce qu’on veut voir plus souvent : une rencontre entre scène européenne et canadienne, portée par des artistes engagés et une communauté métal bien vivante.

Un passage marquant… et, pour ceux qui y étaient, difficile à oublier.

The Canadian metal scene was buzzing in April with the arrival of the Swiss band BURNING WITCHES, touring the country for the very first time, accompanied by the Toronto trio THUNDEROR.

A highly anticipated, almost symbolic tour that marks an important milestone for BURNING WITCHES. Over the years, the band has established itself as a major force in European heavy/power metal, and finally seeing them take the stage in Canada felt truly special.

We attended the April 21 show in Quebec City, and the energy was palpable from the very first notes. The evening kicked off with TROLLWAR, who quickly set the tone with their effective blend of folk and metal, warming up an already receptive crowd. And despite the bassist’s absence, they didn’t lose any power; the atmosphere was epic and ripe for tales of fantasy and warfare. All that was missing were the D20s, magic saving throws, and “game on, D&G.”

Next, THUNDEROR took the stage with a solid, high-energy performance. Currently promoting their new album *Bleed For It*, the band delivered a well-crafted set that blended classic heavy metal with more theatrical elements, showcasing a stage presence that bridges the gap between old school and modernity. In fact, Bleed For It serves as the soundtrack to a musical (“Thunderor The Musical”) that tells the story of Bowen, a musician and biker seeking glory, blending plots of love, rebellion, and self-discovery. An arena rock-style performance.

It’s to the intro “Sanguini Hominum” that Laura and her “witch sisters” make their way through the crowd. And when BURNING WITCHES take the stage, the energy level rises another notch. Sharp melodies, a confident attitude, and a mastery that directly evokes the genre’s major influences; one thinks of Judas Priest, but with a signature all their own. Laura, the queen witch, is vocally very powerful and reminds us of Doro Pesch, the legendary German singer. The audience, just inches away, takes this steel-like onslaught head-on.

A flawless performance, extremely faithful to what we hear on their albums, but with an intense fire that burns, leaves its mark, and casts a spell. The witch trials and the harsh medieval era are recounted through Laura’s spellbinding voice. The song “Inquisition” perfectly illustrates their fascination with resistance in the face of religious oppression, while highlighting the dark atmosphere of that grim era. What a performance! We still can’t get over it.

What stands out most about this tour is the choice of venues. Here, there’s no distance, no filter: direct proximity to the bands, a raw, almost visceral atmosphere, and that feeling of witnessing something real.

This more intimate format adds another dimension to the show; it’s automatically more intense, more human, and more memorable.

All in all, this BURNING WITCHES + THUNDEROR tour is exactly what we want to see more often: a meeting of the European and Canadian scenes, driven by passionate artists and a vibrant metal community.

A memorable performance… and, for those who were there, one that’s hard to forget.
