1 – KREATOR – Hate über Alles

J’adore ce nouvel album! Le mix parfait d’aggressif avec une touche mélodique.
I just love this new one, perfect mix of aggression with a hint of melody.

2 – FEUERSCHWANZ – Memento Mori

Techniquement lancé en 2021 mais le 30 décembre. Alors disons que je l’ai écouté en 2022 et va continuer en 2023! Leur talent et leur énergie positive ont fait les moments difficiles, plus facile à supporter.
Technically  from 2021 but on december 30. So, I enjoyed mostly in 2022. And going in 2023, I still do. Their talent and positive energy made the hard moments easier!

3 – RAMMSTEIN – Zeit

Le grand retour des allemands légendaires! Très poétique et sombre jusqu’à Dicken Titten. . . comme seul Rammstein peut le faire.
The great return of the German legends. Very poetic and dark until Dicken Titten. . . Like only Rammstein can do!

4 – BLOODYWOOD – Rakshak

Ils ont redéfini le genre folk metal! Leur racine hindu mélangé avec un peu tous les genres de métal font de ce premier album la porte ouverte (ou défoncée) à une culture qui ne semble pas s’intéresser à la musique alternative.
They have redefined the term folk metal. Mixing their indian root with a bit of every genre of metal, this first album is without a doudt a door opener or destroyer for a culture where alternative music is difficult to find!

5 – EVERGREY – A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)

Suivant les pas de The Escape Of The Phoenix, ce magnifique album est encore une fois remplis de bien plus que des mélodies et des paroles. Un opus où les instruments se mélangent avec les voix et les émotions comme aucun autre.
Following in the footsteps of The Escape Of The Phoenix, this beautiful album is still filled with so much more than melodies and lyrics. It is where instruments blends with vocals and emotions like no one else can do.

ALBUMS

1 -BELMONT – Aftermath

C’est avec cet album que j’ai découvert Belmont et je dois dire que c’est une de mes découvertes de l’année. L’album est juste parfait, autant l’instrumental que le vocal qui me donne le goût de crier les paroles de tout mon corps à chaque fois.
It is with this album that I discovered Belmont and I must say that it is one of my discoveries of the year. The album is just perfect, as much the instrumental as the vocal which makes me want to shout the lyrics with all my body at each time.

02 – STAND ATLANTIC – f.e.a.r 

Stand Atlantic viennent me chercher à chaque nouveauté et ne cesse jamais de m’impressionner; je considère qu’ils s’améliorent d’albums en albums. f.e.a.r, c’est pour moi un album “No Skip” du début à la fin.
Stand Atlantic comes to me with each new release and never ceases to impress me; I consider that they get better with each album. f.e.a.r is for me a « No Skip » album from start to finish.

3 – SENSES FAIL – Hell is in your head

Avec un son plus moderne, Mais des racines de vibes emo du début des années 2000, je ne me tanne pas d’écouter cet album. Les paroles deep et brutales y sont pour beaucoup. J’en ai des frissons à les écouter.
With a more modern sound, but roots of early 2000’s emo vibes, I don’t mind listening to this album. The deep and brutal lyrics are a big part of it. I get chills listening to them.

4 – SLEEPING WITH SIRENS – Complete collapse 

Malgré que je suis très attachée à leur stock plus ancien et que je préfère ce que le groupe faisait avant, je reste une grande fan de Sleeping With Sirens et c’est un album le fun à écouter avec une belle vibe, plus “easy going”. Je ne me tanne pas de l’écouter du début à la fin.
Although I’m very fond of their older stock and prefer what the band did before, I’m still a big fan of Sleeping With Sirens and it’s a fun album to listen to with a nice, easier going vibe. I don’t mind listening to it from start to finish.

5 – AVRIL LAVIGNE – Love Sux

Le nouvel album d’Avril Lavigne s’imprègne bien dans la nouvelle vibe de pop punk! Ce que j’aime le plus de cet album c’est bien le retour au source de la chanteuse dans celui-ci, versus ce qu’elle a pu sortir dans les années précédentes. J’ai eu l’impression de retrouver la Avril Lavigne qui m’a fait tomber en amour avec le punk/rock lorsque j’étais au secondaire.
Avril Lavigne’s new album is very much in the new pop punk vibe! What I like most about this album is the singer’s return to her roots in this one, versus what she may have released in previous years. I felt like I was back to the Avril Lavigne that made me fall in love with punk/rock when I was in high school.

SHOWS

1 – A DAY TO REMEMBER + THE GHOST INSIDE + BEARTOOTH + BAD OMENS (Agora du Vieux-Port QC)
Pour son line-up qui était selon moi parfait! Une performance incroyable des 4 bands qui m’ont gardé hype tout au long du spectacle. Plus, je ne peux pas ignorer le fait que j’ai un faible pour la vibe des shows extérieurs pendant l’été.
For its line-up which was in my opinion perfect! An incredible performance from the 4 bands that kept me hype throughout the show. Plus, I can’t ignore the fact that I have a soft spot for the outdoor show vibe in the summer.

2 – MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE ( Centre Bell MTL)
La “emo kid” en moi ne pourrait pas faire un palmarès de mes meilleurs shows 2022 sans mentionner ce réunion tour du groupe My Chemical Romance. Une excellente performance du groupe, sans oublié la foule qui a pu crier les classiques du band qui se sont enchaînés du début à la fin du spectacle.
The « emo kid » in me could not make a list of my best shows of 2022 without mentioning this reunion tour of the band My Chemical Romance. A great performance from the band, not to mention the crowd that could shout out the band’s classics that went on from the beginning to the end of the show.  

3 – SUM41 + PENNYWISE + MILLENCOLLIN (FEQ QC) 
Tel que mentionné, j’ai un faible pour la vibe des shows extérieurs. Le FEQ est donc un incontournable. Dans mon cas, la soirée punk est, pour la plupart du temps, mon highlight du festival. Ce fût effectivement le cas avec ces 3 bands qui ont marqué mes influences musicales.
As mentioned, I have a weakness for the outdoor show vibe. So the FEQ is a must. In my case, the punk night is, for most of the time, my highlight of the festival. It was indeed the case with these 3 bands that have marked my musical influences.

4 – ANTI FLAG (Imperial Bell) 
Honte à moi même, mais c’est pour la première fois que j’ai finalement eu la chance de voir Anti Flag à Québec… En plus d’avoir eu l’occasion de les photographier et je ne suis pas déçue!! Bien que j’aurais aimé pouvoir les voir à l’Anti le lendemain, qui semblait être une soirée assez epic, je peux dire que le show à l’Impérial ne manquait pas d’énergie, ni de la part du band, ni de la foule!
Shame on me, but it was for the first time that I finally had the chance to see Anti Flag in Quebec City… Plus I had the opportunity to photograph them and I’m not disappointed! Although I would have liked to see them at the Anti the next day, which seemed to be a pretty epic night, I can say that the show at the Impérial was not lacking in energy, neither from the band, nor from the crowd!

5 – STAND ATLANTIC + WITH CONFIDENCE (Théâtre Fairmount MTL)
C’est également une première pour moi d’assister à un spectacle de Stand Atlantic…et certainement pas la dernière! Quand j’ai vu qu’ils venaient à Montréal, je me suis précipitée sur les billets considérant que Stand Atlantic et With Confidence jouent quasiment non-stop sur mes playlists! Bien que j’ai vu With Confidence plusieurs fois, je ne suis jamais déçue et je dois dire que je me considère bien chanceuse d’avoir pu les voir à Montréal un peu avant que le band annoncent leur séparation.
This is also a first for me to attend a Stand Atlantic show…and certainly not the last! When I saw that they were coming to Montreal, I rushed to get the tickets considering that Stand Atlantic and With Confidence are playing almost non-stop on my playlists! Although I have seen With Confidence many times, I am never disappointed and I must say that I consider myself very lucky to have been able to see them in Montreal a little before the band announced their separation.

BLACKBEAR – In loving memory

Je n’ai pas toujours accroché sur ce que fait Blackbear normalement, mais ce dernier album joue tout le temps chez moi depuis qu’il l’a sorti. Il a un son pop-punk et il comporte plusieurs collaborations avec des artistes de la scène punk tels que The Used ou New Found Glory.
I haven’t always been hooked on what Blackbear does normally, but this latest album has been playing in my house all the time since he released it. It has a pop-punk sound and features several collaborations with artists from the punk scene such as The Used or New Found Glory.

2 – LORNA SHORE – Pain remains

Ma découverte de l’année. Je n’écoutais pas de Lorna Shore jusqu’à ce que je sois piqué de curiosité par le chanteur Will Ramos qui m’a fait découvrir ce band bien brutal comme je les aimes.
My discovery of the year. I didn’t listen to Lorna Shore until I was piqued by the singer Will Ramos who introduced me to this brutal band as I like them.  

3 – BODYSNATCHER – Beed-Abide

Un seul mot pour résumer cet album : BREAKDOWNS.
One word to sum up this album: BREAKDOWNS.

4 – PARKWAY DRIVE – Darker still

Parkway Drive est mon band préféré depuis plus de 15 ans! Depuisquelques années ils experimente beaucoup avec différents styles, d’album en album, on ne sait jamais à quoi s’attendre! Celui-ci est pleins de trésors cachés!
Parkway Drive has been my favorite band for over 15 years! For the past few years they have been experimenting a lot with different styles, from album to album, you never know what to expect! This one is full of hidden treasures!

Deux excellents chanteurs, très impressionnée par leur performance et une énergie de fou sur le stage de la part de tous le band.

3 – Slipknot (Centre Vidéotron QC)
Un classique, toujours bon en show et une prestation qui nous en donne pour notre argent autant côté visuel qu’auditif !
A classic, always good show and a performance that gives us our money’s worth both visually and musically!  

4 – GET THE SHOT (Rock la cauze + L’Anti + Bar le West)
Ben oui, je les ai vu 3 fois cette année et je me tanne pas! Une énergie de fou à chaque show, mon band Québecois préféré !
Well yes, I saw them 3 times this year and I’m not getting tired of it! A crazy energy at each show, my favorite Quebec band!

5 – THE AMITY AFFLICTION (Club soda MTL)
Ce band à une très grande importance sentimentale pour moi et j’ai eu la chance de les photographier durant cette soirée. C’était mon premier « vrai show » média donc un mélange de stress et d’excitation ce qui fait que je ne me souviens pas beaucoup de l’ambiance (ahaha) mais je me souviens que j’ai chanté à en perdre la voix et pour moi c’est ce qui compte !
This band has a great sentimental importance for me and I had the chance to photograph them during this evening. It was my first « real » media show so it was a mix of stress and excitement so I don’t remember much of the atmosphere (ahaha) but I do remember that I sang my heart out and for me that’s what counts!

C’est l’heure des bilans. Une belle année! Beaucoup de prestations LIVE, quelques albums de bands que j’aime ainsi que quelques découvertes intéressantes. 
J’essaie de me tenir à jour dans les nouveautés, mais ça devient vite une source d’angoisse, puisque peu de choses trouvent grâce à mes oreilles. J’ai décidé d’accepter ma personnalité et de me concentrer sur la qualité plutôt que sur la quantité. L’année 2022 m’a beaucoup gâtée de ce côté. De grandes sorties de bands que je suis depuis longtemps, mais aussi des coups de cœur inattendus qui me font rêver à l’année 2023.
It’s time for balance sheets. A great year! Lots of LIVE performances, a few albums from bands I like as well as some interesting discoveries. 
I try to keep up to date on new music, but it quickly becomes a source of anxiety, since not much finds favor with my ears. I’ve decided to embrace my personality and focus on quality rather than quantity. The year 2022 has spoiled me a lot on that side. Great releases from bands I’ve been following for a long time, but also unexpected favorites that have me looking forward to 2023.

THE INTERRUPTERS – In the Wild (05.08.2022 – Hellcat Records)

Chansons préférées (favorite songs) : « Raised by Wolves », « Let ’em Go », « Jailbird »

Un album très attendu. Comme c’est un de mes groupes préférés depuis 2014, la sortie d’un nouvel album est toujours un événement spécial pour moi. Je n’ai pas beaucoup aimé le 3e album, Fight the Good Fight. Je le trouvais un peu trop simple, sans rien d’excitant. Plusieurs chansons étaient à mon goût, mais un peu trop “radio friendly” et ça m’a fait douter de la direction que prendrait le band dans le futur. Je savais que cet album, le quatrième, serait un point décisif. Le moment de choisir entre consolider leur côté ska punk ou mettre l’emphase sur le côté plus pop pour plaire à leur nouveau public “radio”. Étant une fan de la première heure, j’anticipais beaucoup cette sortie.  

Déjà, avec la sortie du premier single « In The Mirror », j’avais une bonne impression et je n’ai pas été déçue. Ils passent le test haut la main. Ils ont puisé dans leurs influences et ils nous offrent une belle variété de styles, de sonorités. Ils ont gardé la fougue, la légèreté et la folie du ska tout en exploitant un côté plus sombre, plus profond, surtout dans les textes très personnels et touchants. On passe par toutes les émotions. Amy donne une performance incroyable. J’ai toujours aimé sa voix, mais avec cet album elle est une coche au-dessus. On sent les tripes. Je change de chanson coup de cœur à chaque écoute. Est-ce que j’aime toutes les chansons, honnêtement, pas du tout. Certaines sont au-dessus de mes limites, mais j’apprécie leur talent. J’écoute non-stop, de la première à la septième (qui est ma préférée pour l’instant), mais je décroche ensuite.

A highly anticipated album. As one of my favorite bands since 2014, the release of a new album is always a special event for me. I didn’t like the 3rd album, Fight the Good Fight, much. I thought it was a little too simple, with nothing exciting about it. Several songs were to my taste, but a little too radio friendly and it made me doubt the direction the band would take in the future. I knew that this album, the fourth, would be a turning point. The moment to choose between consolidating their ska punk side or emphasizing the more pop side to please their new « radio » audience. Being a die-hard fan, I was really looking forward to this release.

Already, with the release of the first single « In The Mirror », I had a good impression and I was not disappointed. They pass the test with flying colors. They drew from their influences and they offer us a nice variety of styles, sounds. They kept the ardour, the lightness and the madness of the ska while exploiting a darker side, deeper, especially in the very personal and touching texts. One passes by all the emotions. Amy gives an incredible performance. I’ve always loved her voice, but with this album she is a step above. You can feel the guts. I change my favorite song every time I listen. Do I like all the songs, honestly, not at all. Some of them are above my limits, but I appreciate their talent. I listen non-stop, from the first to the seventh (which is my favorite so far), but then I drop out.

VENEREA – Euro Trash (08.2022)

Chansons préférées (favorite songs) : « The Nobodies », « Chanson d’amour »

Mon coup de cœur de l’année, l’album Euro Trash, du band suédois Venerea. Découverte que j’ai faite en fin d’année, en fouillant sur des playlists Spotify, pour trouver des nouveautés à ajouter à mes playlists. Une mission forcée, que je me suis donnée pour voir si j’étais toujours capable d’aimer de nouveaux bands. Le band est loin d’être nouveau, mais mieux vaut tard que jamais 😉 Il faut dire que ce n’était pas un groupe très actif depuis plusieurs années. Band de la vague “skatepunk” suédoise des années 90, ce n’est pas un band dont on a beaucoup entendu parler.

Malheureusement, car ils n’ont rien à envier à Millencolin ou No Fun At All. Pour les nostalgiques, il y a justement une chanson “souvenir” avec comme chanteurs invités des membres de Millencolin, Adhesive et No Fun At All), « Summer Of 94 ». Une chanson concept le fun, mais loin d’être ma préférée. Il faut dire que j’ai le choix. Toutes les chansons ont quelque chose d’accrocheur. Je les aime toutes. Il y a de tout ce qui me plaît. Une musique rapide qui botte le cul, de belles voix, un refrain à chanteur en chœur qui comble mon besoin de chanter. J’ai quelquefois de la misère à finir l’album puisque j’accroche trop aux cinq, six premières chansons. Je n’ai pas encore pris le temps de fouiller leur discographie, mais c’est dans mes plans de 2023.

My favorite of the year, the album Euro Trash, from the Swedish band Venerea. I discovered it at the end of the year, while searching on Spotify playlists, to find new songs to add to my playlists. A forced mission, that I gave myself to see if I was still able to like new bands. The band is far from new, but better late than never 😉 It must be said that this was not a very active band for several years. As a band from the Swedish skatepunk wave of the 90’s, it’s not a band we’ve heard much about.

Unfortunately, because they have nothing to envy to Millencolin or No Fun At All. For the nostalgic, there is a « souvenir » song with guest singers from Millencolin, Adhesive and No Fun At All, « Summer Of 94 ». A fun concept song, but far from being my favorite. I have to say that I have a choice. All the songs have something catchy. I like them all. There’s everything I like. Fast music that kicks ass, beautiful vocals, a sing-along chorus that satisfies my need to sing. I sometimes have a hard time finishing the album since I get too hung up on the first five or six songs. I haven’t taken the time to dig into their discography yet, but it’s in my plans for 2023.

SVERIGES JÄVLA HJÄRTA (Compilation – Second Class Kids)
LASTKAJ14 + EPA + FRUKSTANVÄRLD + NORRA HOSPITALET + SLAVERIET + KKPA + VERA NOREA + GOONDOCKS + VINTERTID  

Chansons préférées (favorite songs) : « Svea Rikes Grav » (Lastkaj 14), « Urnan » (Fruktansvärld) 

Une compilation du label suédois secondclasskids dans le cadre des élections suédoises de 2022. Neuf groupes, deux chansons chacun. Principalement des textes en suédois mais il y a quelques exceptions. Je « triche » un peu mais ça me permet de parler de plus de bands. Tous des bands suédois qui méritent une plus grande visibilité internationale. Quelques découvertes mais, surtout, des valeurs sûres. L’album débute avec, rien de moins, que deux chefs-d’œuvre de Lastkaj 14. Est-ce qu’ils sont capable de faire autre chose? Ils ne semblent pas avoir de problème avec la pression de toujours faire mieux. Je suis obsédée par le band depuis maintenant cinq ans et ils ne cessent de se surpasser, ce qui me semble impossible à chaque fois.  

C’est sans surprise que les deux chansons se retrouvent dans le top 5 de mes écoutes de l’année Spotify. Après les avoir écoutés en boucle plusieurs fois, je peux passer aux chansons qui suivent. Deux chansons du second band d’Ammy, guitariste et chanteuse de Lastkaj 14, EPA. Deux excellentes chansons typiques du band. Toujours un plaisir à entendre, mais de très courtes durées. Droit au but, pas de niaisage. Un grand total, pour les deux chansons, de 3 minutes 43 secondes. Fast and loud punk rock avec la plus belle voix féminine de la scène punk rock. (C’est mon top, aucune objectivité ;-). Fruktansvärld est un autre jeune band (2020) que j’adore. Ils n’ont encore que quelques chansons (split avec Lastkaj 2021 et quelques singles) et je suis déjà accro. Ils ne cessent de m’épater et me coûtent déjà cher de merch ;-). Leur premier full album est attendu pour le début de l’année 2023 et risque de se retrouver très haut dans mon prochain top!

Slaveriet est une autre découverte des derniers mois. Découverte n’est peut être pas le bon mot puisque je connaissais déjà le band, comme pas mal tous les autres bands de secondclasskids, mais je ne m’étais encore jamais arrêtée pour écouter avant. J’ai aimé tout de suite. Le genre de chanson qui reste dans la tête. 

J’ai eu et j’ai encore beaucoup de plaisir à écouter l’album en boucle. II n’ y a rien de mauvais sur cette compilation. 

A compilation by the Swedish label secondclasskids in the context of the Swedish elections of 2022. Nine bands, two songs each. Mostly Swedish lyrics but there are some exceptions. I’m « cheating » a bit but it allows me to talk about more bands. All Swedish bands that deserve more international exposure. A few discoveries but, above all, some solid values. The album starts with, no less, two masterpieces by Lastkaj 14. Can they do anything else? They don’t seem to have a problem with the pressure to always do better. I’ve been obsessed with the band for five years now and they just keep trying to outdo themselves, which seems impossible every time.

Unsurprisingly, both songs are in my top 5 Spotify listens of the year. After listening to them over and over again, I can move on to the songs that follow. Two songs from the second band of Ammy, guitarist and singer of Lastkaj 14, EPA. Two excellent songs typical of the band. Always a pleasure to hear, but very short. Straight to the point, no nonsense. A grand total for both songs of 3 minutes 43 seconds. Fast and loud punk rock with the most beautiful female voice in the punk rock scene (This is my top, no objectivity ;-). Fruktansvärld is another young band (2020) that I love. They still have only a few songs (split with Lastkaj 2021 and a few singles) and I am already hooked. They never cease to amaze me and already cost me a lot of merch ;-). Their first full album is expected for the beginning of 2023 and is likely to be very high in my next top!

Slaveriet is another discovery of the last few months. Discovery may not be the right word since I already knew the band, as well as quite a few other secondclasskids bands, but I had never stopped to listen before. I liked it right away. The kind of song that stays in your head.

I had and still have a lot of fun listening to the album over and over. There is nothing bad on this compilation.

STRAIGHTLINE – Keep your cool

Pour moi leur réputation n’est plus à faire. Définitivement un band dont j’achète la musique sans en avoir entendu une note. J’ai une confiance aveugle en leur talent. Keep Your Cool est un album que j’attend depuis longtemps et qui valait grandement l’attente. Quels musiciens! C’est ce que je cesse de me dire tout au long de mes premières écoutes. Un mélange assez unique de style. Chaque chanson a sa couleur, sa saveur. On n’a jamais l’impression d’écouter la même toune. Certaines chansons sont très rapides, d’influence metal, hardcore, tandis que d’autres sont hyper catchy et mélodiques. Il y en a pour tous les goûts. Personnellement, ma préférence se situe dans la zone plutôt mélodique, catchy comme « Earth Defenders », par exemple, mais je sais apprécier aussi d’autres plus hard comme la dernière « Powerlift ». Les chansons plus techniques, avec beaucoup de solo, m’accrochent moins, mais n’en demeurent pas moins d’excellentes chansons, surtout pour les musiciens et les fans de guitare. Album d’une grande qualité comme toujours!

For me, their reputation is well established. Definitely a band whose music I buy without having heard a note. I have blind faith in their talent. Keep Your Cool is an album I’ve been waiting for and it was well worth the wait. What musicians! That’s what I keep telling myself throughout my first few listens. A very unique mix of styles. Each song has its color, its flavor. You never feel like you’re listening to the same song. Some songs are very fast, metal influenced, hardcore, while others are hyper catchy and melodic. There is something for everyone. Personally, my preference is in the rather melodic, catchy area like « Earth Defenders », for example, but I can also appreciate others more hard like the last « Powerlift ». The more technical songs, with a lot of solos, are less appealing to me, but are still excellent songs, especially for musicians and guitar fans. Great quality album as always!

Six tounes, dont trois versions de vieilles live. Ils ont aussi sorti un EP en 2022, mais j’ai surtout accroché avec « We Decide! ». C’est cette chanson que j’écoute sans cesse et qui vole totalement la vedette. Elle fait partie de ma liste Spotify qui tourne en boucle. Du grand Bishop! La musique Oi à son meilleur.  
Six tunes, including three versions of old live ones. They also released an EP in 2022, but I was most hooked by « We Decide! It’s this song that I listen to over and over again and it totally steals the show. It’s on my Spotify playlist and it’s on a loop. Great Bishop! Oi music at its best.

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX – Banefyre

CBP est le loup solitaire du milieu de la musique et de la scène, ne faisant apparition que quand ça lui tente, ne sortant des albums que quand ça lui chante. CBP est en fait un groupe où les musiciens passent comme dans une auberge. Il y a un leader et sa muse, et les autres suivent ou pas. Cet album se compare aux autres dans ses thèmes, ses sonorités, ses longueurs et ses langueurs, ses titres de quatre à dix minutes, allant d’une triste ballade (« I’m Ok, Just Not Alright ») à un démonstration metal déchaînée (« No Regrets », titre en prime). En plus de celui-ci, je recommande plusieurs albums de ce groupe, dont ceux que je surnomme le rouge, le blanc, et le jaune. Allez, suivez leurs traces sauvages.
CBP is the lone wolf of the music and stage scene, only appearing when they feel like it, only releasing albums when they feel like it. CBP is in fact a band where the musicians pass through like in an inn. There is a leader and his muse, and the others either follow or they don’t. This album is comparable to the others in its themes, sounds, length and languor, four to ten minute tracks, ranging from a sad ballad (« I’m Ok, Just Not Alright ») to a raging metal demo (« No Regrets », bonus track). In addition to this one, I recommend several albums by this band, including the ones I call the Red, White, and Yellow. Go ahead and follow in their wild footsteps.

SELENIC – Resilience

Ovni dans le ciel de France, ce groupe nous offre avec ce premier album un rock progressif particulier à cause de la voix et des arrangements, ni trop complexes ni trop techniques. Les deux premiers vidéoclips sont des réussites, et devraient vous donner un bon aperçu de ce qu’ils sont capables de faire sur tous les plans.
A UFO in the French sky, this band offers us with this first album a particular progressive rock because of the voice and the arrangements, neither too complex nor too technical. The first two video clips are a success, and should give you a good idea of what they are capable of doing on all levels.

ALBUMS

1 – GHOST – Impera (Suède, heavy métal / Sweden, heavy metal)

Ceux qui me connaissent savent déjà quel album allait être au top de mon palmarès, parce que ça fait des mois que je n’arrête pas de parler de Ghost! Ce groupe a pris une place centrale dans ma vie cette année. J’aimais déjà Ghost avant, mais avec Impera et la tournée subséquente, Papa Emeritus IV et ses goules se sont vraiment hissés au statut d’un de mes groupes préférés de tous les temps. Parfois on développe une obsession, on accroche tellement sur un groupe qu’on en mange, on en respire, on y pense quand on dort, etc. Je peux nommer peut-être une douzaine de groupes qui se sont hissés à ce stade dans ma vie, et Ghost s’est établi comme l’un de ces inégalables avec Impera. Cet album est un sans faute. C’est la grandiosité et l’ambition du projet; l’esthétique et la thématique complète, la théâtralité; les éléments de rock des années 80 hyper satisfaisants, les touches de prog, les chansons qui font rire autant que d’autres te donnent tout un coup dans les émotions; l’équilibre de cet album, franchement c’est un long jeu parfait à mon avis. Ghost est le bon mélange d’un groupe qui ne se prend absolument pas au sérieux, mais qui prend sa musique au sérieux, et j’avait besoin d’exactement ça cette année. Merci à Ghost d’exister.

For those who know me personally, Impera taking the number one spot of my year end list will come as absolutely no surprise, because I haven’t shut up about this damned band for MONTHS! I just can’t get enough, man. This band has taken such a central place in my life this past year, and I see no chance of that changing anytime soon. I liked Ghost before already, but with Impera and the subsequent tour, Papa Emeritus IV and his ghouls have managed to firmly grasp a spot for themselves amongst my favorite bands of all time. You know those bands you eat, breathe, sleep. I can name maybe a dozen bands that I have fallen this bad for throughout my 24 years or so as a metalhead. It’s a select club. And Ghost joined it with Impera. This album is good from cover to cover. It’s the ambition of the project that does it for me, the majesty of it. The on point aesthetics and themes, the theatrics, the camp. The arena rock / 80s rock elements, the prog elements, the variety of the song’s emotional loads, from fun catchy bangers to tearjerkers. The balance of this album is perfect. Ghost sits right at the junction of a band that clearly doesn’t take itself seriously, but takes its music seriously, and that’s the exact mix I needed this year.

2 – SPIRITBOX – Rotoscope (Canada, metalcore)

Coté évolution de mes goûts musicaux cette année, 2022 a été marquée par mon ouverture vers les genres -core. Lorsqu’on est metalleux, du type qui écoutes du power ou du black, c’est très facile de tomber dans le panneau de se séparer des genres dérivant du hardcore, parce que ce n’est pas du “vrai métal”. Je sais, c’est vraiment moche comme manière de penser, mais la communauté se prête trop à la séparation et c’est facile de se faire emporter sans se poser de questions: pas les mêmes concerts, pas les mêmes foules, les deux côtés se jugent, etc. Je suis vraiment heureuse d’avoir enfin passé par dessus mon jugement hâtif. J’étais prête cette année à ouvrir mes horizons et à passer à autre chose, et Spiritbox ont été mon groupe d’introduction vers cette section de la musique extrême. Les portes qu’ils m’ont ouvert!! J’ai devant moi tout un genre avec ses propres thèmes, ses propres formules récurrentes, son style de chant, plein de nouveautés à découvrir, tout ça parce que Spiritbox a cliqué avec leur nouvel EP Rotoscope. Quelque chose dans la voix inégalable de Courtney Laplante, dans sa prestance sur scène, quelque chose dans la lourdeur des break downs, dans la basse et la guitare, je ne sais pas mais ils m’ont tellement eu! Je suis fascinée, par ce groupe et les possibilités des genres – core. Promis je vais faire mes clases comme tout le monde, écouter les classiques, absorber le tout comme il faut. Mais Spiritbox va toujours rester le groupe qui m’a ouvert les yeux.

In terms of my music taste evolution, 2022 has been the year of the -core genres. Now, when you’re a metalhead, like, the power metal kind or the black metal kind, you know the ones, it’s so easy to fall in the trap of seeing the hardcore people as « other ». How many times have I heard that -core bands “aren’t real metal” through my life. It’s fucking sad, this way of thinking, and I say that as someone who totally fell victim to it. What can I say, I didn’t know better, and the two scenes keep to themselves so much, separate shows, separate crowds, they judge each other back and forth, it’s insidious you know? I am so glad I finally called myself out on my own bullshit and decided to put those hasty judgments aside and give metalcore a genuine try. Spiritbox helped a ton. With their new EP Rotoscope, they were my gateway drug into the depths of -core, and they opened so many doors for me. I don’t know what precisely clicked for me, be it Courtney Laplante’s unbelievable talent on vocals, her insane stage presence, the heaviness of the breakdowns and muddy bass lines and guitar slides, but something pinged in my brain. It felt right for where I’m at in my life. I now stand at the edge of a precipice full of new sounds, tropes, compositions, vocal styles, a plethora of things to sink my teeth into and I couldn’t be happier I finally got my head out of my ass. I promise I’ll learn the ropes properly, go through the essential -core bands like everyone else, I’ll do this right. But Spiritbox will always remain that first band that opened my eyes.

3 – LORNA SHORE – Pain Remains (États-Unis, deathcore / United States, deathcore)

Bon, celui-là il était évident, il est sur les listes des meilleurs albums de 2022 de pratiquement tout le monde. Je ne serais pas surprise qu’il soit l’album de l’année d’au moins un des contributeurs du média. Lorna Shore a mis la planète entière sur le cul avec Pain Remains, et je ne suis pas immunisée. Si Spiritbox ne m’avait pas ouvert au genres -core, Lorna l’aurait probablement fait quelques mois plus tard. Cet album est omniprésent et avec raison. C’est un tour de force. Les gars de Lorna Shore sont en train de réécrire et de redéfinir ce que la musique extrême peut être. Ils changent les règles du jeu, carrément. Pain Remains va être l’un de ces albums qui vont influencer le reste de la décennie, soyez-en certain. La lourdeur sans précédent, la complexité compositionnelle, la sensibilité émotive, les techniques vocales absolument inhumaines, je vous le dis, cet album va être imité mille et une fois dans les prochaines années, et personne ne va arriver à la cheville de l’original.

Now this one was obvious. Pain Remains features on literally every year end list I’ve seen so far, it’s everybody’s album of the year. I would be shocked if it didn’t feature in at least someone else’s top 5 from the media. Lorna Shore told the entire metal music world to sit the fuck down and pay attention this year, and I’m only human ok, I did as they told me. If Spiritbox hadn’t opened my mind to the -core genres over the summer, Lorna Shore would’ve done it once they released Pain Remains in the fall. It was only a question of time. This record was unavoidable this year, and it’s well deserved: this was a mammoth undertaking and these guys knocked it out of the park. Lorna are re-writing the code of extreme music as we speak. They’re setting up new rules, a whole new bar for the culture to aspire too. Pain Remains will be one of those albums of the decade that helped redefine and push heavy music forward. The unprecedented density of the tracks, the complexity of the compositions, the emotional sensitivity of the lyrics and themes, the absolutely inhuman vocal prowess, I swear this album will get imitated a thousand times in the next decade, and no other band will ever come close to doing it like Lorna did.

4 – DRAG TALK – Dogs (États-Unis, shoegaze / United States, shoegaze)

Pour ma quatrième position, je vous fais découvrir un groupe dont personne qui me lit n’a entendu parler auparavant, j’en suis presque certaine. Fans de Ghost, Drag Talk est un passage obligé, supportons nos goules! Ce nouveau projet tout beau tout frais sorti de la collaboration de deux des musiciens de scène de Ghost, Jutty Taylor et Hayden Scott, est un ABC du shoegaze au gout du jour. Cet EP est délectable. Ça sonne tout droit sorti des années 90. Les influences du grunge sont là, ça sonne comme le Soundgarden qu’on aurait tant voulu continuer d’avoir. Chris Cornell lui-même aurait été parfaitement à l’aise sur ces chansons. Ça vient remplir un vide. On a droit à la panoplie d’effets et de pédales qui forment le son de guitare caractéristique du shoegaze, le cœur du genre (d’ailleurs nommé parce que les musiciens ont tellement de pédales sur la scène qu’ils passent leurs concerts à regarder au sol, à fixer (gaze) leurs souliers (shoe), le saviez-vous? L’origine du nom est l’une de ses petites découvertes qu’un ami cher guitariste m’a appris alors qu’on parlait de Drag Talk.) Chaque morceau est accrocheur à souhait, mais d’une manière complètement différente. La voix de Jutty Taylor est tout simplement divine, en tout cas pour moi, ce gars là c’est de la dopamine pure injectée dans mes veines. Ça vaut vraiment le détour, et vous avez l’occasion de supporter une formation à leurs tout débuts!

For as much as my 3rd position has been the talk of the town this year, my 4th position is about a small, all new shoegaze project most of yall haven’t heard of before I’m sure. Ghost fans, if you don’t already know of Drag Talk, this is a mandatory pit stop: support your ghouls! This breath of fresh air of a band was born from the collaboration of two of Ghost’s tour musicians, Jutty Taylor and Hayden Scott. It’s an ABC of modern shoegaze and it’s downright delectable. It pulls from the 90s so well, the grunge influences are there: it sounds like the Soundgarden we all wish we could have continued to get. Mr. Chris Cornell himself would have slotted in on these tracks perfectly. Drag Talk fills this void for me, it’s nostalgic in the best way. The band doesn’t hold back on the expected over-saturated guitar sound shoegaze is known for, effects and pedals galore (did you know the genre got its name from how artists spend all show looking at the ground, aka gazing at their shoes, because of the multitude of pedals they have on stage with them? I sure didn’t, it’s a dear friend who plays guitar that taught me this while we talked about this EP. The more you know!). Every track on the Dogs EP is catchy as hell, but in a different way. Ear worms, the lot of them. Jutty Taylor’s voice is divine, at least for me, this guy’s a straight shot of dopamine into my veins. Drag Talk is well worth your attention and hey, you’d get to support a budding project right as it takes off, and isn’t that a special way to contribute to the culture you love?

5 – BLOODYWOOD – Rakshak (Inde, folk métal / India, folk metal)

Cet album est paru au tout début de l’année, et c’est parfois simple d’oublier ce qui sort en février au profit des disques plus frais dans nos mémoires. Mais Bloodywood ont fait assez de bruit avec Rakshak pour qu’il soit impossible de les oublier! Probablement le plus gros groupe de métal Indien qui se soit rendu de notre coté de la planète, Bloodywood savent se démarquer. Je n’ai personnellement jamais entendu un groupe sonner comme eux. Avec leur mélange d’instruments traditionnels indiens, de techniques vocales folkloriques indiennes, de chant “scream” en pendjabi et en hindou, de rap en anglais, et de types de compositions qui touchent à tout dans le métal, du death au power, ce groupe peut se venter d’être entièrement original. Et juste ça, la passion, l’innovation, le désir de changer le métal, ça leur aurait valu une place dans mon top cinq, mais! Ça s’adonne que les gars sont des personnes extraordinaires aussi! Les valeurs que véhiculent ce groupe, dans son attitude, ses paroles, sa manière d’agir, sont d’une beauté et d’une importance capitale dans notre société d’aujourd’hui. Le groupe véhicule des message anti-racistes, anti-violence sexuelles / anti-culture du viol, anti-corruption politique; ils parlent ouvertement de santé mentale, de l’importance de prendre chaque jour un à la fois et j’en passe. Ça fait un moment que je n’ai pas croisé un groupe aussi ouvertement engagé dans l’amélioration du tissu social, et je les adore encore plus pour ça.

Rakshak came out right at the start of the year, and it’s so easy to forget the earlier releases in favor of the later records that are more fresh in our minds. Well, Bloodywood made sure they’d be unforgettable even with a February release! Are they the biggest Indian metal band our side of the world has seen yet? I think they are. They stand out in a massive way. Their sound is a wild mix of Indian folk instruments and rhythms, traditional Indian singing techniques, scream vocals in Punjabi and Hindi, rap vocals in English, and compositions that pluck tropes and sounds from every corner of the metal universe, from death to power and back. Bloodywood can brag about being an entirely original creation. I’ve never heard a band sound like that. And from the sheer originality, the willingness to break the mold, they would’ve deserved a spot in my top 5, but! It just so happens these musicians are a bunch of stand up human beings too! The values this band puts forward, in their attitude, their lyrics, their need to do good around them, are beautiful to see and so, so necessary in today’s world. Bloodywood openly stands against racism, against sexual assaults and rape culture, against corruption and political violence; they speak out about mental health, about how they need to take it one day at a time and that’s ok. It’s been a long time since I came across a band this publicly and unapologetically engaged politically and I firmly support their vision.

Je n’ai assisté qu’à trois concerts cette année, donc je n’ai pas le matériel pour faire un top cinq, mais clairement, peu importe si j’avais vu cinquante spectacles, mon numéro un serait resté Ghost quand même. Vous savez ces moments charnière dans une vie où quelque chose change profondément, où il y a un avant et un après, et la vie n’est plus pareille ensuite? Le concert de Ghost m’a fait ça, et j’en suis encore surprise. J’ai vraiment un avant le 15 septembre et un après. Ghost a été le premier concert que j’ai osé refaire depuis la pandémie. Mon dernier concert avant ça, c’était Heilung en février 2020. J’avais passé deux ans et demie figée dans la peur et le stress de la pandémie, comme beaucoup d’entre nous, incapable de passer par-dessus mon anxiété pour enfin reprendre mon mode de vie de métalleuse. Ça me prenait un concert que je devais absolument voir, que je ne me serais jamais pardonnée d’avoir manqué, et Ghost a été exactement ça pour moi. Ce concert m’a reconnecté avec qui j’étais avant que l’univers tourne à l’envers, que je m’oublie, qu’on s’oublie tous un peu quelque part devant cette tragédie mondiale. Je me suis retrouvée durant ce spectacle là. J’ai retrouvé et recollé des morceaux de moi que je pensais brisés pour de bon. Ce n’est pas le cas. Je suis de retour en force, pour refaire des concerts, pour être à nouveau passionnée par la musique, et c’est grâce à cette soirée extrêmement spéciale et précieuse.

I’ve only attended 3 shows this year so I don’t have the material to make a top 5, but honestly? Even if I’d seen 50 of them? My number 1 spot would have been Ghost no matter what. You know those turning points you’ll come across in your life. Those moments where something profound changes, when there’s a clear before and after, a definite change and life is no longer the same following the event? Somehow this Ghost show managed to be that for me, and I’m still surprised by how much this one evening of live music changed my life months after. Ghost was the first concert I was able to attend since the pandemic. My last show before that was Heilung in February 2020. Mere weeks before the world turned to shit. Since then, I’d spent two and a half years paralyzed with the fear of catching said virus in a crowd, and so even when the music industry picked back up in 2021, I was unable to make myself go to a show. It took a band I could not miss, a concert I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t attend, to break me out of that stupor. Ghost did that for me. This show made me whole again, in a strange way. It reconnected me with who I was before. I’d forgotten who I was through the pandemic, like many of us did. I found myself again on that one faithful night of September 15th. I picked up the broken pieces of who I was before this insane world tragedy and glued them back together, into a different shape, sure, but I feel like myself again now. I feel like the girl who was at every show pre-2020, who’d traveled anywhere for her bucket list bands, that “front row or die” girl I used to be. I’m me again. Ain’t life crazy, when a band about an anti-pope and a silly satanic church heals you this deeply? September 15th was a damn special night that’s for sure. Transformative. Very precious.

Lorna Shore se sont dépassés sur le plan musical cette année, mais pas seulement: ils ont aussi produit un mini-film de plus de vingt minutes mettant en scène le message fort et saisissant de leur magnum opus, la chanson en trois actes Pain Remains qui clos l’album du même nom. Le groupe n’a pas hésité une seconde à nous confronter directement aux difficultés et horreurs de la dépression, du suicide et des problèmes de santé mentale. Et ça a fait son effet: je vous met au défi de passer à travers les trois vidéos sans avoir la larme à l’œil. Pour moi c’était impossible, les vidéos et l’intensité de la musique et des paroles faisant beaucoup trop écho à mon propre vécu. Pas facile à regarder comme clips, mais essentiels. Lorna Shore poussent la communauté métal à parler de ces sujets qui sont trop souvent passés sous silence. Ils ont amené la conversation sur la santé mentale à la surface, ils ont ouvert le dialogue, et j’espère sincèrement que cette fois-ci, ça va rester. Le monde du métal a perdu assez de ses plus grands musiciens à la dépression, au suicide, à l’addiction, aux overdoses. Il est plus que temps que la communauté métal s’arrête sur ce genre de sujets et en parle sérieusement, au lieu de les banaliser ou de les sensationnaliser. Lorna nous a fait jaser des vrais affaires cette année et je les en remercie.

Lorna Shore outdid themselves musically this year, but not only that: they also produced a mini-movie for their 20 minutes long album closer Pain Remains track, its 3 acts brought to life on film in a very striking way. Let’s just say the song’s message about mental health, depression and suicide was not subtle whatsoever, and the metal community needed that. We need to be confronted to those things, and Lorna brought these hard topics out in the open unapologetically, to start a discussion, to force a dialogue. I’d wager they succeeded, because the Pain Remains trilogy is currently unavoidable online, from forums, to message threads discussing the meaning, to reaction videos on youtube where people openly show their emotions and cry (I sure got choked up watching it, the heavy themes and dense emotional universe the videos weave echoed my own life story). These videos should be essential material in my opinion. Within the metal community, subjects like mental health are too often shoved under the rug or shrugged off as “pussy shit”. It’s too easy for a community built around tough extreme music to dismiss such topics and tell its members to just grow some balls and tough it out. Lorna Shore made conversation happen around mental health with the Pain Remains trilogy and I sincerely hope it sticks this time. Metal has lost enough of its greats to depression, suicide, drug abuse, overdoses. We need to talk about this openly. We need to feel comfortable bringing it up. Mental health is an important topic, it’s ok to talk about it, it doesn’t make anyone less cool, Lorna Shore proved it, they spoke about it openly and they’re still absolute badasses. Pain Remains made the metal community tackle some real subjects this year, and I thank them for the risk they took.

Du skacore (ska + hardcore) à la salsa mexicaine et malheureusement totalement sous-estimé : à découvrir sans plus attendre pour vivre un réel exorcisme musical. Un album féroce, percutant et unique qui tourne en boucle chez-moi depuis sa sortie.
From skacore (ska + hardcore) to Mexican salsa and unfortunately totally underestimated: to discover without further delay to experience a real musical exorcism. A ferocious, hard-hitting and unique album that has been on repeat at home since its release.

2 – IGNITE – IGNITE

OMFG cet album éponyme est bon d’un titre à l’autre, à se passer en intraveineuse n’importe quand : addiction assurée. C’est accrocheur, mélodique, puissant et précis comme un coup de batte de baseball : HOME RUN ! De la lave en fusion !
OMFG this eponymous album is good from one track to the next, to be played intravenously at any time: addiction guaranteed. It’s catchy, melodic, powerful and precise like a baseball bat: HOME RUN! Molten lava!

3 – ARCHITECTS – FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO EXIST AT ABBEY ROAD

L’expérience ultime pour le fan fini d’Architects…mais aussi pour les curieux amateurs de metalcore croisé symphonique! Un projet audacieux que de traduire la rage du metalcore via les instruments symphoniques. Un sacré défi technique ou la créativité a fait son oeuvre : ça se sent, s’entend et c’est clairement réussi.
The ultimate experience for the ultimate Architects fan…but also for the curious symphonic metalcore crossover fan! A daring project to translate the rage of metalcore via symphonic instruments. It’s quite a technical challenge where creativity has done its work: you can feel it, you can hear it and it’s clearly a success.

4 – THE HALO EFFECT – DAYS OF THE LOST

Dès les premières notes du single je savais que j’allais dépenser. Groupe projet composé de Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquility) et d’anciens membres de In Flames c’était écrit dans le ciel que je n’allais pas demeurer insensible aux flots de décibels suédois que cet album contient. Fidèle à l’esprit death mélodique de Gothenburg, ville mythique qui a vu la naissance de nombreux bands du genre dans les années ’90 il s’agit d’un incontournable à posséder.
From the first notes of the single I knew I was going to spend money. A project composed of Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquility) and former members of In Flames, it was written in the sky that I was not going to remain insensitive to the Swedish decibels that this album contains. Faithful to the melodic death spirit of Gothenburg, a mythical city that saw the birth of many bands of the genre in the ’90s, this is a must-have.

5 – AMORPHIS – Halo

Et oui sans surprise cet album m’a habité pendant la majeure partie de l’année. Sans être mon favori, cet opus a su me réconforter tout en me faisant pleurer et hurler de joie! Certains titres ont pesés là ou il fallait pour en faire un incontournable dans ma collection.
And yes, without surprise, this album has been with me for most of the year. Without being my favorite, this opus knew how to comfort me while making me cry and howl with joy! Some of the tracks weighed in just right to make it a must-have in my collection.

SEVENTH STORM – Maledictus

Pour son fabuleux premier album. Ce nouveau band (2021) mené par Mike Gaspar (ex-moonspell) mélange savamment la musique portugaise traditionnelle au métal. Ce qui en fait un album de caractère, teinté de culture et d’émotion, mais sauvage et indompté. Un joyau !
For its fabulous first album. This new band (2021) led by Mike Gaspar (ex-moonspell) skillfully mixes traditional Portuguese music with metal. What makes it an album of character, tinged with culture and emotion, but wild and untamed. A jewel !

SHOWS

1 – AMORPHIS (Théatre Fairmont MTL)
L’un de mes bands favoris, qui venait de lancer un album incroyable et en excellente compagnie, quelle soirée ! Malgré la longue route (un accident majeur d’un camionneur sur la route nous a beaucoup retardé) et comble de malchance une perte d’électricité dans le secteur du spectacle. Qu’à cela ne tienne dès qu’ils sont entrés sur scène, j’étais « à la maison ». Il m’est difficile d’expliquer le sentiment d’appartenance que j’ai envers ces musiciens, ce feeling qu’ils sont de la famille. Ce show, je l’attendais depuis longtemps, porteur d’espoir de la reprise de spectacles de groupes de l’international. Conquise, comblée et heureuse ! 
One of my favorite bands, who had just released an incredible album and in great company, what a night! Despite the long drive (a major truck accident on the road delayed us quite a bit) and to top it off, a loss of electricity in the area of the show. But as soon as they came on stage, I was « home ». It’s hard to explain the feeling of belonging I have towards these musicians, this feeling that they are family. I had been waiting for this show for a long time, hopeful for the revival of international bands. Conquered, fulfilled and happy!

2 – RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE (FEQ QC)
Sur ma « Ultimate Bucket List » depuis ma naissance ! Je me revois entourée de tous mes chums de kodaks dans le photopit devant l’immense scène principale du FEQ, la gueule à terre complètement impressionnée. La foule derrière qui chante chaque parole de chaque chanson. La chair de poule ne m’a pas lâché du show. Un sans-faute, et ce, malgré la blessure incommodant Zach.
On my « Ultimate Bucket List » since I was born! I can see myself surrounded by all my photographer friends in the photopit in front of the huge main stage of the FEQ, my face on the ground in complete awe. The crowd behind singing every word of every song. Goosebumps never left me during the show. A flawless performance, despite the injury that bothered Zach.

3 – GHOST (Centre Vidéotron QC)
Un line-up de fou avec Spiritbox et Mastodon au Centre Vidéotron. J’ai coché 3 cases de ma Ultimate Bucket-List ce soir là. Je me suis laissé séduire par les goules et leurs jeux et par le nouveau Papa bien sûr. Entendre la foule (composé de jeunes et de moins jeunes fans) scander des mots qui il n’y a pas si longtemps te valait l’excommunication, un exorcisme ou carrément le bûcher fut une expérience profondément satisfaisante. Quel spectacle d’envergure, à couper le souffle et sans fausse note.
A crazy line-up with Spiritbox and Mastodon at the Centre Vidéotron. I ticked 3 boxes on my Ultimate Bucket-List that night. I was seduced by the ghouls and their games and by the new Dad of course. Hearing the crowd (made up of young and not so young fans) chanting words that not so long ago would have gotten you excommunicated, exorcised or burned at the stake was a deeply satisfying experience. What a breathtakingly large show, without a false note.

4 – GET THE SHOT (FESTIVAL ENVOL ET MACADAM QC)
Nos fleurons du hardcore québécois se passent de présentation et cette année, ils sont partout…et même dans les Europes! Mais quel show ils ont donné ce jour-là : j’ai pas de mots assez puissants. Pour les avoir vus 3 fois en 2022, je ne pourrai pas oublier celui-là : un vrai raz-de-marée d’émotions, d’énergie pure et brute, ce précieux feeling de ne faire qu’un avec le band et la foule. J’ai frissonnée tout le long, ce qui est bon signe ! 
Our Quebec hardcore jewels need no introduction and this year, they are everywhere…and even in Europe! But what a show they gave that day: I don’t have words strong enough. Having seen them 3 times in 2022, I won’t be able to forget this one: a real tidal wave of emotions, pure and raw energy, this precious feeling of being one with the band and the crowd. I shivered all the way through, which is a good sign!

5 – BATUSHKA (La Source QC)
Se produisant dans une salle qui est loin d’être ma favorite et traînant une historique de scandale, ce n’était pas gagné d’avance pour eux. Mais la magie (noire) a opéré et je me suis laissée totalement envoûtée par l’ambiance particulière de ce show. Que ce soit la lumière*, la musique et le son*, le visuel…même l’odeur a contribué à me propulser « ailleurs » le temps de la prestation. Il s’est passé de quoi de séculaire et d’occulte ce soir-là. *Opéré par les techniciens de tournée sur leurs propres consoles*
Performing in a venue that is far from my favourite and with a history of scandal, it was not a foregone conclusion for them. But the (black) magic worked and I was totally enchanted by the special atmosphere of this show. The light, the music and the sound, the visuals… even the smell helped to propel me « elsewhere » during the performance. What was secular and occult going on that night? Operated by the tour technicians on their own consoles

MENTION SPÉCIALE
ROUGE POMPIER pour son audacieux set-up en plein milieu de l’Anti avec la foule tout autour. Également pour l’ingéniosité d’arriver à réunir autant de gens de styles différents en totale symbiose. Et l’énergie de ces deux gars-là qui arrivent à mettre le feu et tu te prend à tout oublier et à chanter à tue-tête…même si tu connais pas toutes les paroles. WoW, respect !
For its daring set-up in the middle of the Anti with the crowd all around. Also for the ingenuity of bringing together so many people of different styles in total symbiosis. Add the energy of these two guys who manage to set the place on fire and you start to forget everything and sing at the top of your lungs… even if you don’t know all the lyrics. Wow, respect!

1 – ARCHITECTS – Animals (Orchestral Version) – Live at Abbey Road Version remixée tirée d’un album qui m’a profondément obsédée. Là, ils me la rentre dans le cœur et dans l’âme en version symphonique : ça m’arrête le sang et je frissonne à l’infini jusqu’à la fin des temps. Meilleure que l’original !
A remixed version from an album I was deeply obsessed with. Now they’re sticking it into my heart and soul in a symphonic version: it stops my blood and I shudder endlessly until the end of time. Better than the original!

2 – SEVENTH STORM – Haunted Sea
Tiré de l’incroyable album MALEDICTUS, j’adore cette chanson et la facture intimiste et feutré du vidéo permet de s’arrimer parfaitement avec la profondeur de cette pièce très sombre. Chapeau !
Taken from the incredible album MALEDICTUS, I love this song and the intimate and hushed feel of the video perfectly matches the depth of this very dark piece. Hats off to you!

3 – BEARTHOOT – Devastation
Parce que c’est une bombe nucléaire, l’énergie déployée est fatale et t’envoie en orbite ! Visuellement une saturation de couleurs, mais tout en sobriété sur un texte comme un uppercut. BOOM !
Because it is a nuclear bomb, the energy deployed is fatal and sends you into orbit! Visually a saturation of colors, but all in sobriety on a text like an uppercut. BOOM !

4 – BLOODYWOOD – Dana Dan
Graphiquement très beau sur des insert de danse bollywood entrecoupé de la prestation du band qui revendique pour les femmes. Il s’agit d’une première en Inde, un pays assez machiste où la femme n’a pas beaucoup de droits. Un texte direct et incisif : arrêtons les agressions sexuelles, réfléchissons à notre rôle et travaillons à éliminer ces comportements – SHOUT OUT !!!!!
Graphically very beautiful on Bollywood dance inserts interspersed with the band’s performance that advocates for women. This is a first in India, a rather macho country where women do not have many rights. A direct and incisive text: let’s stop sexual assault, think about our role and work to eliminate these behaviours – SHOUT OUT !!!!!

5 – IGNITE – This Day
Visuellement magnifique, tout en noir et blanc, sur l’énergie de skaters roulant au son de paroles qui appellent à l’unité et cherchent à apaiser les tensions raciales. La composition est impeccable, le vocal me fend en deux ; je suis vendue !  
Visually stunning, all in black and white, on the energy of skaters rolling to the sound of lyrics that call for unity and seek to ease racial tensions. The composition is impeccable, the vocals split me in two; I’m sold!

MEILLEUR/PIRE MOMENT | BEST/WORSE MOMENT

Il m’est impossible d’arrêter un meilleur moment en particulier, la musique étant mon oxygène et la photo mon sang. Chaque seconde passée dans l’univers du spectacle m’est précieuse. Je ne dirai jamais assez à quel point je me considère comme privilégiée, mais j’y travaille fort et c’est totalement méritée. \m/\m/
It is impossible for me to stop at a particular best moment, as music is my oxygen and photography my blood. Every second spent in the world of musical events is precious to me. I can’t say enough about how privileged I consider myself, but I work hard at it and it’s totally deserved. \m/\m/

Le pire : SVP pouvez-vous arrêtez de me « stagediver » dessus ?
