L’ album HEART LIKE A GRAVE, lancé à l’automne 2019, est le huitième album du groupe INSOMNIUM. À cette même date, nos finlandais ont également annoncé l’arrivée d’un nouveau membre, Jani Liimatainen un des fondateurs du groupe SONATA ARCTICA, comme guitariste et vocaliste. Jani a également participé à l’enregistrement de l’album. HEART LIKE A GRAVE est un album qui étale parfaitement les thèmes généralement employés par INSOMNIUMsoit: le chagrin, la nature, l’obscurité, la perte et la douleur et dans un genre qu’ils maitrisent bien, le death métal mélodique.

Les paroles de cet album peuvent être difficiles à décrypter. L’interprétation de celles-ci pouvant aller dans plusieurs sens selon l’expérience, le vécu et la connaissance de l’auditeur, ce qui apporte une profondeur toute personnelle à cet album. Pour ma part cet album m’évoque un peuple nordique qui vit loin de tout et qui doit se débrouiller avec ce qu’ils ont, aussi difficile soit leurs conditions.

Principalement et à l’aide des vidéoclips de Valediction et de Heart like a grave, un lien se tisse avec l’histoire d’un homme qui vit un deuil difficile suite au décès de sa femme. À la toute fin du clip de Heart like a grave, on peut supposer son suicide, car tenant sa femme décédée dans ses bras il s’avance lentement dans le lac sans jamais s’arrêter. Petit clin d’œil à l’acteur qui joue son rôle à la perfection.

Magnifique façon de commencer l’album avec les notes d’une mélodie envoûtante, puis l’ajout graduel des autres instruments pour finir par la voix rauque de Nilo : mélange parfait entre le mélodique et le métal et ça coule comme de l’eau. Personnellement aucune chanson de cet album n’est mauvaise et dès la première écoute j’étais déjà sous le charme. Malgré des paroles très déprimantes et noires, la musique est si harmonieuse que j’en arrive à oublier le côté sombre de Heart like a grave. Dans la version Deluxe on peut entendre les versions acoustiques des pièces My pale morning staret Karelia. Un bel ajout qui permet d’apprécier encore plus le talent incroyable de ces musiciens et de leurs créations; ce que plusieurs fans qualifient de chef-d’œuvre du death métal mélodique

The album HEART LIKE A GRAVE, released in fall 2019, is the eighth album by the group INSOMNIUM. On this same date, our Finns also announced the arrival of a new member, Jani Liimatainen one of the founders of the group SONATA ARCTICA, as guitarist and vocalist. Jani also participated in the recording of the album. HEART LIKE A GRAVE is an album which perfectly spreads out the themes generally used by INSOMNIUM: grief, nature, darkness, loss and pain, and in a genre they master well, melodic death metal.

The lyrics of this album can be difficult to decipher. The interpretation of these can go in several directions depending on the experience, life and knowledge of the listener, which brings a very personal depth to this album. For my part, this album reminds me of a Nordic community who live far from everything and who must manage with what they have, however difficult their conditions may be.

Mainly and with the help of music videos from Valediction and Heart like a grave, a link is woven with the story of a man who is living in difficult mourning following the death of his wife. At the very end of the Heart like a graveclip, we can assume his suicide, because holding his deceased wife in his arms he slowly advances into the lake without ever stopping. A nod to the actor who plays his role to perfection.

Wonderful way to start the album with the notes of a bewitching melody, then the gradual addition of the other instruments to finish with the hoarse voice of Nilo: perfect mixture between melodic and metal and it flows like water. Personally no song from this album is bad and from the first listen I was already in love. Despite the very depressing and dark lyrics, the music is so harmonious that I manage to forget the dark side of Heart like a grave. In the deluxe version they add acoustic versions of the pieces My pale morning starand Karelia. A beautiful addition that allows to appreciate even more the incredible talent of these musicians and their creations; what many fans call a masterpiece of melodic death metal.
